87 R30 7.4L Oil pressure gauge sender
Hi to all, New member in Australia. Looking for some advise on best quality oil pressure gauge sender.. have 2 now that leak ( original unknown brand and Standard motor products ) In all fairness, it may be because the replacement crate engine has up to 75PSI at idle ( cold ) and latest sender is 60PSI. Has worked fine for about 2 years but now leaking, fluctuating occasionally, and hanging at mid range reading when engine shut down. Ignition turned back on and gauge drops to lower mark.
I'm currently using a mechanical gauge and have checked the original gauge, wiring and connector and found all ok. I found GM information that shows ALL the sender units are the same for the 60, 80 and 100psi gauges. All have the same Ohms figures at low, mid and high gauge marks. Would like to know if anyone has found a sender that will handle the extra pressure, without leaking, OR if someone has used an 80psi sender with the original 60 psi gauge....Appreciate any information... Thanks |

My 7.4 has a high volume/high pressure pump.
Needle is also buried when cold, but it has the "Standard" brand sending unit. Never had a problem leaking.

Re: 87 R30 7.4L Oil pressure gauge sender
Thanks for the information, much appreciated.
My leaking sender is a single wire unit for the gauge only. I have the multi wire sensor like yours, on the same branch, at the front of the block near the oil pan rail. It doesn't leak. Leaking unit is the can type with the blade terminal straight off the end. Trying to find out if any particular brand is working ok in the same situation. |
