47-55.1 Battery cover

My battery cover is missing the bars that lock it in place. I would think I could make something work and make some replacement pieces. I know I can buy a new cover but I figured it wouldn't hurt to try, I'm sure I've got what I need to not spend anything but time.

Problem is that I can't seem to find any good pics. Can you guys show some pics with a good profile of what I need? Are they straight flat pieces or do they have a bend at the end for example.

I think I have one that is complete. Have to do some digging though or weed wacking to get to the other truck.

Here ya go. Don't mind the grunge. The previous owner was trying to seal it I'm guessing. I haven't decided if I'm going to sand blast it or just order a replacement.

Thanks. That doesn't look to bad. I'll practice the bends on some clothes hanger wire then see if I have something thicker laying around.

I've seen some pics if carpeted interiors... How do you guys cover the battery and still have access?

matt did you ever finish it? i am in the same boat. if i drive to az this month i either need to fix my cover or buy a new one. if i can just fix mine that would be awesome. either way i dont want the cover to keep trying to fly away.

You know I tested and played with it using an old wire hanger and cut and bent and it actually kinda worked. I meant to copy it with a thicker wire but I wound up using sealer to lock the door down and I cut into my inner fender for my battery instead.

thicker wire is currently sitting in your front yard or on the corner of your road

after the election tomorrow, pull one of those wire loop signs out
best freaking wire around, very stiff and holds it's shape very well
plus there's an endless supply of it: election signs, real estate signs, college painters signs, will buy your house signs
they're all fair game in my opinion

If i don't like the party placing them i take em and use them as target holders on our range- work great and easy to attach targets. Also big satisfaction of putting holes in them is an added bonus.

I used to see that a lot along with Task force battery brackets on the firewall but still don't like the ugliness of it.

I should say that at one time I had my battery on a TF bracket on the firewall and the acid from the battey ruined a nice Weiand finned aluminum valve cover. True the voltage regulator wasn't working right and the alternator was overcharging the battery.

I was going to mount to the firewall but I was worried about future heater and a/c plumbing

I used a drop down battery box mounted on the frame where the original was.

I'm going to the junk yard next week. I know where there is a 53 panel wagon if they have the cover I can pick it up.

I just bought a classic industries one and its junk, the c channel is too long, and they used flat stock which i dont mind instead of the wire, problem is i can lock it down, and still lift the cover over an inch! This is with the new gasket

I would think reproducing a good AD battery cover would be difficult. Originals are very heavy duty. Mine is original and would hate to have to replace it.
