Just picked up a 1967 GMC Suburban - been sitting in Alaska for 30 years!
Hey guys, I finally joined the actual 67-72 club! I've always had the 73-87 and 88-98 trucks, but this is my first one of these. I got a 1967 GMC Suburban in a trade deal. It's a 1/2 ton, 2WD, V8, tailgate model. Right now it's basically a (non?)rolling chassis. I have no idea what my plans are as I have three other project vehicles right now that have zapped all my play money, but it will definitely be dropped and I'd love to do a very basic LS swap is money permits.
Anyway, I'll try and get a picture up soon! |

Re: Just picked up a 1967 GMC Suburban - been sitting in Alaska for 30 years!
I went back up today to get it on 4 wheels so I could drag it out for the appraiser to look at, so I can get the title application sorted out. There is surprisingly little body damage but the passenger side is pretty rusty along the rocker area...or lack of one! Frame looks good and the rear gate works, although the upper hatch is pretty rusty as well as the glass is broken out of it. I think I even have most of the side trim from pieces I've found in the back, along with likely the original transmission. The truck even had some interesting options such as a tach cluster, although that has unsurprisingly been stolen.
This tree literally grew and formed around the truck! Sitting on some crappy wheels, but it's off the ground and no longer laying frame! Extraction! Out of it's hole And the RPO tag in the glove box. Looks like it come with a 327 originally. Anything on here stand out to anyone? |

Re: Just picked up a 1967 GMC Suburban - been sitting in Alaska for 30 years!
Wow, 5 years later and I’m just now getting around to bringing this thing home. It’s getting trailered down to the house this weekend, hopefully!
I can’t seem to find where I hosted the original pictures, so I got some new ones while we were up there scoping out the path to get it towed out. It’s rustier than I remember, but it was a very well optioned rig back in the day. I’m guessing this would definitely be a 1-of-X rig. I noticed something interesting here - on this SPID label, there appears to be two additional options hand written onto the label, which also appear to be the same code layout as the factory options. Is this something that the factory or dealers did? I’ve never heard of nor seen this done. I wish it was clearer and easier to read, but either way it’s interesting. |

Re: Just picked up a 1967 GMC Suburban - been sitting in Alaska for 30 years!
Finally got her pulled out of her spot! It rolled pretty decent, master cylinder is seized. Found out that it has a 12 bolt axle. Was this standard, or optional?
Gave it a quick scrub down. Almost looks restorable now! It’s going to need some major metal repairs. The passenger pillar is rusted away at the bottom. I can get the rear door to shut, barely. The front door latch is off by about 1/2”. I’m assuming the body has sagged a bit. |
