Name these wheels... PLEASE !!!
OK fellow boardmembers, i really need help with this one. First off, let me start from the beginning. I originally started on my 68 project as a demonic, pro-street, in your face, running on the ragged edge of streetability, big block propelled vehicle. Well, just as trends change, or should i say evolve, so do people. This years Hot Rod Power Tour was probably the first turning point for me. Viewing all the latest trends and techno first hand, getting to speak to many of these people from all over the country, i've finally put together a master plan for the 68 that i feel will result in a more reliable, modern , functional and comfortable cruizer .
The truck will still have a pro-street look to it, just like in the pics that will follow. Instead of running 15 " wheels, i'll step up to 17" To be exact, 17x7 and 17x11's Surely it will still be big block powered, just a little more well mannered, and hopefully multi-port fuel injected $$$$ (eventually) I've already swapped to a 9 inch rear for easier gear changes and presently i'm looking at rear disc setups. Now getting back on the subject of this thread, as for as the exterior goes, i'm planning on a mirror image of the truck below, with the only changes being black paint instead of red ( i have a red one already ) and keeping my factory mirrors. And finally....... on to the million dollar question ! I need to know for certain what kind of wheels are these. The article ( Truckin' Jan. 2003 ) states that they are Billet Specialties Visions. Well, after talking to a salesman there, he says they dont have a wheel named "visions" . Okay, i'm thinking maybe there was a typographical error in the article and they meant to say Billet Specialties "Vintecs" They do look pretty close, but i'm not sure. The pics on billet specialties web site seem like they maybe a larger diameter wheel like maybe a 20" Is that the difference i'm seeing? The center caps are different but that may be a design change. I believe this truck was built about 2 years ago. Well, here goes! Any wheel guru's out there? How about you N2TRUX, your running "vintecs"

Guys, here's something else to notice. Look how the width of the "spoke" remains the same from the center hub to the outer ring and also seems to turn inwards slightly

Let me do some research. I have soime pics of that truck too,and I may be able to figure out what they are. I do know they are "not" Vintecs though.
The center cap looks like Billet Specialties....

I think the guy at Billet Specialties doesn't know what he is talking about. It appears they don't make this wheel anymore, but I have found a couple of places where the owner states they are Billet Specialties "Vision" wheels. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be a typo that many times.
His article inCustom Classic Trucks says- "Traction is courtesy of BFGoodrich Radial TAs mounted on 17-inch Billet Specialties Vision wheels" |

I thought I remembered them being Billet Specialties. When I first saw them they made me think of a billet version of the Impala SS wheel. That's probably the only reason the brand stuck in my mind. |

I have a set of Weld Wheels that are pretty close to those only six spoke. I tried to attach an image about a hundred time and can't get the f@^#$!^ thing to post, says the file is too big.

Wow, definately not the good news i was hoping for.
N2TRUX, I called Billet Specialties and they confirmed what you said about being discontinued. Oh well !! Guess i'll keep looking at others. I know i've seen some pretty close to those. Remember the red ' 57 Bel Air at Super Chevy last month. Those were clean also. hmmm..... Anyhow, i appreciate the research you did for me! Thanks Ken !!!! gldevall, GMC JUNKIE TOO, PR454SS .... Many thanks to you guys also!! .... And on a closing note, i just received an e-mail from consumer relations at BF Goodrich stating that they have discontinued production of the 345/55R17 Well, it will eventually get there. Just wont be as simple as a couple of phone calls. Thanks again, Chris Bowtie468
