Re: 72 highlander seat cover
I saw some listed at a dealer in Texas but they are high. Pretty sure they were over $700.

SMS Fabrics in Oregon.
https://smsautofabrics.com/collections/1972-gmc Also, SMS will make them for you. I ordered a green plaid in October without the scrolls in the center. They told to expect it sometime around March. $755, up front. Last edited by thehata1; 01-06-2018 at 09:22 PM. Reason: Mention my order. |

Re: 72 highlander seat cover
I called these people for my material. You will have to find an upholstery shop to sew it up.

Re: 72 highlander seat cover
Southern Classics in TX or member Truckseats sell complete covers with scrollwork on the parchment. Southern Classics should have them in stock.

Re: 72 highlander seat cover
So...if you buy all the material up front from SMS etc.....what does it all cost to get it done up?
Do you put this one yourself?......what does the upholstery shop charge once they receive the fabric? ...I'm going to have to redo my blue/white highlander in the next 1-2 years so I'm gearing up for this process. Coley

Re: 72 highlander seat cover
IIRC the last one cost about $300 labor.

Re: 72 highlander seat cover
SMS sells the scroll section also. The last one we ordered took a while.

Re: 72 highlander seat cover
That's IT! Thanks Doug. There you go Joe, sorry about the name being off a bit.
As to cost questions - I had mine put together by Tim (Truckseats) and the fabric and vinyl came from SMS. It was before they (SMS) had gotten the operation running a bit more smoothly, and scrollwork on the Highlander vinyl sections was a new thing still (they used to come with no scrollwork). They initially did it in saddle or something the wrong color. Tim was helpful as the middleman/final assembler, but I also spoke directly to the guy at SMS. In the end, it cost me close to $700, so the finished price isn't out of the ballpark for what SW Classics sells them for. Mine took somewhere between 6-9 months to complete. I'm sure Tim and SMS are much faster now as they have done many more of these. I don't know what Tim's final price is these days, it may beat SW classics, I just don't know as it's been awhile. I can say that I've seen the SW Classics seat covers at Fort Worth Good Guys and they appear to be very high quality, as did the rest of the stuff they had on display. I purchased an olive custom cloth cover from them because it appeared to have the correct olive color to it in both the vinyl and the houndstooth - the last one I bought seemed a bit off. Anyway, hope that helps. |

Re: 72 highlander seat cover
I was down at SW Classics a while back, and the seat covers they had on display were nice.
They had inner fenders at a great price too.

CARS, Inc is the bomb for OEM type set covers...in factory as well as your own hybrid. I have them do saddle vinyl/herringbone '72 bucket seat covers in '91. They have been doing it forever and quality is of the best available. I'm glad to see a saddle plaid is available. My Sierra seat cover is starting to let go in one row of stitching. I was going to go with either green or orange plaid in saddle, depending on body color choice. But saddle makes that so simple. Time to start filling the piggy bank. The cover in my truck now is also from back in '91. The bucket covers I had made because they were custom and no bucket seat covers were offered, yet. The saddle bench cover I bought from Gary Terry when they first came out. It was in my camper hauler till '04 and now sits in my '72 K2500. I believe his were from CARS as well.

Re: 72 highlander seat cover
Someone just posted a blue highlander seat on the Craigslist finds thread. Not cheap but looks good and you could have it in a week or two and skip the aggravation most folks experience when dealing with upholstery shops.

Re: 72 highlander seat cover
I saw this one on FB the other day, cars1 shows the highlander truck covers in blue, green, fawn, gray.
Im hoping for bucket seats in fawn plaid, think it will go better with the sandal wood floor mats. If the gray were a little lighter like the original I would go that route...if available. |
