1960 GMC Napco plow truck.

This rig was recently gifted to me by the neighbor and I am hoping to bring her back to life. Supposedly sitting for 12 years. This weekend I spent some time going over things. Missing the hydraulic steering cylinder, but otherwise seems complete. 31k miles, some rust in the cylinders, loaded with mystery oil today. V Plow was sold years ago I am told.

401, Napco conversion, Clark 5 speed, 7.17 gears, 30,000GVW. Hope you enjoy the photos:

That's a really neat rig there. Looks to be in decent shape.

Re: 1960 GMC Napco plow truck.

Hi There Peanutbutter! Love your last post. Sort of odd to be able to find nothing on the web about something, then see someone with just about the same rig. I am interested in front axle photos. My rig seems to be missing the hydraulic steering piston. It also seems, from one of your photos, to be very different than what the B5000 is sporting. I am throwing up a few photos if the axle as well as the front rim.

Any clue what that stud is with the square drive top? Did you change your front rims peanutbutter? Sorry to be all over the place. It will take some time to absorb.

Re: 1960 GMC Napco plow truck.

In post #7, you lost me, not sure what you are referring to as the stud with the squire drive top. I'm not sure what the fitting on the front of the knuckle is that has the 1 inch or bigger hole in it, the one close to the backing plate. Posting some pics of the knucks on my 66 Napco C80 to give you a better idea of whats inside, the knucks are identical on my 63 B model.

Re: 1960 GMC Napco plow truck.

I think he's referring to the picture of the wheel, it has a square drive inner lug nut on the hub instead of a regular hex nut. That's actually an inner lug nut for the rear duals on a truck with Budd wheels, takes a 13/16" square socket to remove. They must have lost a lug nut and replaced it with that is my guess.

You're right, I didn't see the phony inside lug stud, it doesn't show on my screen very well. I was playing wheres Waldo on pic #1, funny.

Re: 1960 GMC Napco plow truck.

I also discovered that under my '62 GMC 6500 one day. I was doing some painting that day and those letters became white, lol. That's the old style logo that they were still using on the rears long after they dropped it from the truck itself.

Re: 1960 GMC Napco plow truck.

That old 'GMC' script did show up on a lot of parts a lot later than you would think! Years ago I changed out an air brake compressor on an early-80's GMC C-6500. The cast-iron base of the old compressor had to be reinstalled on the new compressor, and it had that GMC script casting mark on the bottom.
