Rear suspension question
Is the leaf coming from the rear of the truck not touching anything normal? What Am i looking at? And i can't get the dang picture to upload correct.. i flipped it and its still upside down. So my apologies.

It’s an overload spring. It only touches under a heavy load and helps bear the weight.

Thank you my initial thought was they were something like that. Now that i know what they are called. I quick Google search gave me some great info. Helper springs seems to be another common name for them.

Usually helper springs are an add on for leaf springs. The overload leaf on your truck is a GM factory option for the coil spring rear.

Thanks for the info! Love learning every detail about my truck. just read that its a stock 3.73 rear end it as well. on the spid anyways now to see if its in there still. i think its a 12 bolt main.

It is a 12 bolt. But main has nothing to do with the rear axle. Enjoy your truck as it sounds like you are!

Unless you’re using your truck to cart heavy loads on a regular basis you could probably remove them. They weigh a fair bit and are relatively easy take off or replace if you need.
My truck leads an easy life now so I took mine off.

Pop the cover off your differential to see if you have a 12-bolt posi, and drop the oil pan to see if you have a 4-bolt main motor...Enjoy your classic ride!
