YOU guys get to decide! All votes and suggestions welcome.
Hello Chevy Truck Family.
Should I keep this trucks air filter closer to original looking or keep the open air filter and why? Im stuck in the middle. I love both looks. I just got the original steering wheel for the truck and debating if I should swap out the common comfort grip wheel also. Help a brother out. For those that know my story. The truck still has yet to be California registered. So many hoops to jump through. Such a pain. |

That video was kick ass. Very interesting. Looks like Im good with either firlter. My engine is a 400 big block. Video says dual snorkel is good up to 390hp. I dont think my engine comes close to 390hp. So far votes are leaning to dual. Quote:

Again Im new to the car culture. Kinda forced when we inherited the truck. What do you guys mean by "dual snorkel plumbed for cool air"?

Make sure before you choose, that your choice won't effect the trucks emissions. California is very strict about it, you can't even register a car/bike without an emissions sticker on it. I like the open look better, but if you're trying to look all original maybe the other way.

x2. That said, I prefer the dual snorkel but I would like it more if the snorkels were plumbed for cold air intake.

I vote for snorkels too so long as they do not restrict the flow into your build. They fill the area a bit more and I would also consider plumbing them for cold air.

If its a 75 and earlier you don't need emissions. What did the DMV tell you?

Thanks for clueing me in. Not sure if I like how that looks. Maybe if I was leaning more on the performance end I would consider it. Was plumbing cars a norm. back in the days? Ive seen many suped up classics and can say Ive seen plumbed filters a couple of times. Weeble. That salad bowl kicked ass. Also makes sense air flow from the top is more efficient. Demina and Steevedee. Heres the deal with Cali. and emissions. What applies about 75 and earlier is you no longer need to pass smog. BUT 68 and older has to pass emissions. One in the same in many eyes. But to Liberal assbackwards thinking California see it different. Cali. no longer wants gas cars. Though its in out historic dna. They want everybody going electric, uber, bicycles and walking. Because its an import they want to be sure it has federal and Cali. emmissions. I do have a place in Nevada if worse comes to worse. Just dont want to tow it there. Costs, time and trouble. I just need to get it back on the road after the first mechanic was terrible and taking me for a nice chunck of change. And finish the registration. Its been a tiring uphill battle. But I see this truck as a means of spending quality time and bonding with my lady. Doing carshows and cruises. And slowing down the fast pace of technological life. I love the fact its an AM radio and can only tune in ksurf cruisin classics. Keep the votes and suggestions coming. |

not sure where y'all gettin' yer data but no smog or equipment inspections in ca '75 my or older..
transferred 65 c20 from mo to ca in 2015, only needed a weight slip and vin verification.. transferred 71 k1500 burb in 2016 from co to ca, classed as auto so only needed vin verification.. transferred 71 k20 burb in state ca to ca last month, also auto and only needed vin verification.. I'm in orange county which is a smog county, but no mention of smog in any of those transactions.. as for the video, kinda useless sucking 750hp through those dinky air cleaners made for much smaller volume engines.. put a fat element in most of those setups that fits that engine's ve needs and result would likely be better.. and video host even said around 650hp the graph lines met meaning no loss so there's that.. I like the dual snorkel, less common and ducted to cold air could provide some hp gains.. I also like various open element styles so hard to say with out seeing them all installed in person.. but end of the day, that engine compartment is clean and tasteful and just about anything on top will look great! good luck!
