convertingc20 to c10 and lowering

whats involved?
can the rear axles be changed to a 5 bolt pattern?
what has to be changed in the front to convert and lower?

What year truck?
www.earlyclassic.com sells a 3/4ton-to-1/2ton conversion spindle.
That would be the easiest.
No ball joints or tie rods to change.

Otherwise you need to change your lower a-arms to the 1/2ton version and start swapping parts from a 71-87 truck.
I assume your truck is 2wd.

You cannot just replace the axles to get a 5 on 5 pattern on the rear. It will require replacing the complete assembly with one from a half ton donor.

There is no way I would ever run those type of adapters.
Two piece adapter held together with bolts. NO way.

The 8 lug studs are in a hub. The axle has a small flange that drives the hub so the axle is not what needs changing. The 8 lug hub pilot is large like the 6 lug 4x4 and drum hub. It won’t fit in a 5 lug wheel. That combined with virtually zero demand in the big scheme of things.

It’s just too easy to swap in a 5 lug 1/2 ton assembly. But with late model vehicles having 17” and 18” wheels, tons of tire choices so you can keep the 8 lug setup and still lower the truck since 3/4 ton drop spindles are out there now.

Or sell the hard-working C20 to someone who will enjoy it for what it can do, and buy a C10 to slam out hence mostly negating its function as a truck.

Seems to me to be the hard way to get a C10. I have watched my stepson do this exact task as he is transforming a 1970 C20 into a C10. He got lucky and found a C20 with factory trailing arms and 3/4 ton coils springs. So he swapped out the ginormous Eaton HO rear end for a 12 bolt out of a 1969 C10, replaced the rear springs with 1/2 ton lowering springs. He replaced the entire front crossmsmber with a 1968 C10 crossmember and added front lowering springs as well. He has gottemn extrememly good deals on the parts as he has been very patient looking around. He got the 12 bolt (with factory posi-traction and 3.73's) for 50 bucks. The 1968 front crossmember was free.

He plans on doing a 5 lug conversion soon. But for now the 6 lug stuff is working fine for him.

I found a c20 with a rust free body,396 400 auto for $4000. Maybe I could find a rolling frame and swap since I am painting everything anyway.

$4,000 grand for a C20... that thing should be almost mint. I'd think of paying 4k for a K20...

That's a lot of money to pay to start swapping things around. I see you're in the land of road salt and ice... so I'm sure most of these rigs are rotten to the core anyways around your parts. Around these parts, 4k can get you a pretty dang decent C10 with minor rust and a decent drivetrain.

NICE c10's or c20's are impossible to fine for $4k in Missouri.

Just because you don't appreciate a C/20 doesn't mean someone else won't. Far more C/10s out there. Go buy one. I'd rather see a velour seat than a C/20 degraded. You can lower a C/20 if you want to you know? Not that I ever would.
