1966 blower motor question

Just removed the blower motor from my 1966 burb. NAPA replacement ready to go in and no fit!! My original motor is about 3 inches in diameter, the NAPA replacement is 3 1/2 inches. I can't tip it and get it into the heater box. It hits the fenderwell. Anyone else had this problem or any ideas?
