Which Shroud?

Had to replace the radiator in my 69 and went from a 3 core to 4. I installed the 4 core brackets upper and lower also. Problem is my shroud doesn't fit, is there a certain shroud I need to look for?

Re: Which Shroud?

Let me guess. The attachment ears of the shroud stand off the mounting points by 1/2 to 3/4" ?

At the bottom but the top ones are off about an inch or so.

Re: Which Shroud?

Several of us have dealt with this. It seems the culprit is the aftermarket 4 row radiator. At least it is with mine. The top piece running over the top of the core connecting the two tanks is wider on this radiator than a 3 row and it makes the shroud stand off by that much. I did have some pics but I believe I've deleted them. I cured mine by cutting off the area of the shroud making contact with the radiator enough to let the shroud fit flush top and bottom. I'll see if I can find those pics.

Re: Which Shroud?

Ok these first two pics are from a stock truck underhood belonging to Davis Chevy and you can see how the shroud fits up nice and close. Notice the bar that runs across the top of the radiator from tank to tank. The shroud fits up against it good.
Then the next two pics are of my 4 row rad and stock shroud and the poor fit. That top bar is wider on mine not allowing the shroud to fit up close. Look anything like yours?
What I did on mine was cut the shroud all around where it contacted the rad between the mounting ears. Kind of hard to explain but maybe you can tell by pics as it is now. I'll get back with those.

Re: Which Shroud?

I know I can use spacers on the bottom holes but like in the fourth pic my brackets sit higher than the shroud by about an inch.

Re: Which Shroud?

ok yeah. Some of us have cut the rubber insulators bottom thickness in half on the uppers and lowers. That lets the brackets tilt down some.

Re: Which Shroud?

I took a couple pics of my shroud fitment after trimming it a bit. Over the top of the radiator is a cover available from Brothers Trucks. It cleans that area up nice.

Re: Which Shroud?

I used a bench grinder to shave mine. Going at it slowly keeps heat down. It worked for me.

That's my only alternative, I don't do well with razor knives.

Re: Which Shroud?

I don’t see any reason why you can’t massage it to fit.

Re: Which Shroud?

Thought it was just me! I eventually got it mounted but it was a bit of a bear. I was using the 4 core replacement from LMC Truck.

Re: Which Shroud?

You've got it lining up good now. Good deal.
