My son is graduating in a month

He will be graduating in a month from high school and I need some ideas in what to give him or buying something for his truck. The truck does have door handles and locks. I was thinking some new wheels and tires. 15x10 out back with 275 60 15 and some 15x6 with 235 70 15 out front.

Drop that front some more and covert to discs if not already.

Its got 2.5 drop spindles out front and 4 inch drop coils out back.

Put some 2" drop coils in the front and 1" block in the rear.

How about a performance driving course?

...this are really cool and really useful for young people and the skills they get carry forward and help keep them safe on the road.

Wheels and tires are such a personal choice that is avoid them unless he’s specifically mentioned a specific size and wheel type.

All depends on your budget. Some options:
New tach n vac instrument cluster from member TBone and/or
Seat cover and carpet if needed
Hidden stereo (if he still happens to have the ol AM in there)
Does he want side trim?
Stock-size Disk brake kit a nice idea - and his current wheels and tires will clear the calipers.
If you do have a good idea what wheels and tires he’d like - I think your size/stagger choice is perfect for that truck - that would be a very nice graduation present!

Wheels are such a personal, cyclical thing. Have you thought about a lifetime gift? Something he will use regardless of wheels or trucks, etc.

A serious toolset is going to be my gift to my teenager when he graduates. He can then fix whatever he wants and buy his own wheels!

Kudos to your son for graduating and you for getting him something nice.

Good point SCOTI - not sure they even sell drop spindles for drums.. Ha.
The cluster is a pretty easy install and something he'd see every time he jumps in. But, I have to agree with some of the other posts about the tools- they are a very nice idea too, unless he's already got a ton or perhaps that was a previous gift. DIAGNOSTIC tools never go out of style. But tools in general, that is indeed the gift that keeps on givin, Clark..

If you’re looking at wheels and tires, I would go 15x8 up front with 255/60/15s and out back 15X8 with 275/60/15s. In my opinion, a 275 looks to stretched on a 10” wheel. If you set on a 10” wheel, go with a 295. Now, if your son uses this as a daily and wants to rotate tires go with 255’s or 275’s all the way around.

New rubber is a good idea because kids won't spend their own money on safety things but then at least you know he's rolling on safe tires.

Wheels are too personal of a choice to buy for someone else unless you know specifically what they want.

If the windshield is cracked, new glass might be nice!

If he's handy and likes working on the stuff (and is responsible enough not to lose quality tools) then quality tools are good. I literally still have my first socket set that was given to me for my 16th birthday, though I'm missing one socket now!

If youre thinking wheels , pay for them but let him pick them out .. does it have to be a surprise ? At his age I'll bet he'd like an air ride suspension .
