Cylinder head change
Hi folks,
I’m wandering about changing my cylinder heads for some perf upgrade. By now, I have stock heads 113 cc oval ports open chambers (3999241) fitted on a 1972 BBC 402 L47 (3999290) with dome cast pistons 402P30. And there are so many cylinder heads, as I am not sure to buy the right one. Some of you guys did already bought heads compatible with this set ? Thanks, Last edited by jojomiamia; 05-12-2018 at 11:45 AM. |

Re: Cylinder head change
Big block heads can be a challenge if you aren't building your motor from scratch. The problem is that most open chamber performance heads are 121cc which will KILL your compression.
I would be looking at the Edelbrock Oval Port heads which have 110cc chambers. They also mill that head down to 100cc as well for late model TBI 454. You will need to call Edelbrock and ask them about your piston compatibility if you go that way. I have some closed chamber oval port heads on my 427 (290 casting) and I have looked at the possibility of going to those heads (a) if I need to drop the compression due to detonation or (b) just a more powerful head.
