Posi unit for Eaton HO52

Does anyone know where to find a posi differential for Eaton 52? Had no problem finding one for the Dana 44 in the front but having no luck with the rear.

I only know of Detroit Lockers for the corporate rears. That's what they came with, that GM called "No-Spin". You won't find a new unit offered these days, but used units can be found or one for a 14-bolt will work with 14-bolt axles...with a little taken off the 14-bolt axle length

Re: Posi unit for Eaton HO52

HO52 Detroit lockers [GM no-spin] are made out of unobtanium

goodly amount of forum discussions out there, may have to do a little research for an alternative unless you can wait for a falling star..

I bought a D60 I was preparing for a swap in my K20 Burb but a friend pulled through with a complete HO52 third member with locker for me.. thankfully before any cutting took place..

good luck!

That, or keep it original with 14-bolt guts. Axle swaps are always an option. My '72 K2500 came with a Dana60 with Power Lok posi. But the HO52 is a tougher axle, so I have one of those with No Spin as a swap option. Because all of these rears, even the 14-bolt, are old parts with the possibility of losing parts support.

What's involved in converting to 14 bolt axles?

Re: Posi unit for Eaton HO52

Detroit lockers are very hard on fuel milage and tires, you want something with clutch packs.

Re: Posi unit for Eaton HO52

I beg to differ on that, sorry. After running these in many trucks over the years I have never found either to be true. Mileage is not affected by a locker. They present no more rolling resistance that an open rear. I've owned two '72 3/4t pickups that got identical mileage. Both had everything the same except the GMC had a Power-Loc and the Chevy had a No-Spin and they both got 12.5 mpg.

On rear tires wearing, you just need to know how to drive a locker. You drift it around the sharp turns, unless you like to hear the tell tale chirp and wear on your tires. I've driven trucks with lockers so much, that is how I always make my turns. At a light making a left, for instance, I give gas to get going, cut left, roll around the bend, then hit the throttle. It's a good way to drive anything to prevent fishtailing on greasy rainy streets, even with open rear. Tires on an open rear will wear less driving this way as well.
