Alternator Dilemma Without OEM Manifolds
OK, 1967 Chevy C20 with newly rebuilt 355 Gen I SBC.
Just got sorted-out the problems with power steering pump fittings for original high pressure line, (separate blog). Ordered a CPP kit to relocate the alternator bracket (like picture) because I removed the old OEM manifold with mounting bracket. Got a new updated alternator, kept original pulley for V-belt to save some money now, but kept the new alternator fan for best cooling. Now you see the next two pictures, one with complete CPP Kit, totally does not fit for the adjusting arm and will have to shim the alternator in mount for fit and alignment. So tried the adjusting arm I had and its closer, but still no joy. Ideas? I'm thinking I just need to get the clocking correct on alternator AND an adjustment arm that arches more? R/ DJ |

Re: Alternator Dilemma Without OEM Manifolds
The CPP picture looks like the stock cast bottom bracket and stock upper arm ,Your picture looks like a fabricated / welded bottom bracket and generic upper arm . Send it back and find a stock set up ,I just had mine chromed you can see the difference in the arc of the upper bracket easily .

Funny how the CPP picture is totally different than the one they are selling. CAST versus Welded!

Re: Alternator Dilemma Without OEM Manifolds
Grumpy Old Man, I totally agree. Contacting CCP (not first time, had issues with disk brake kit lines, BIG time). Hope you do not mind, but I will provide your picture as example of difference in arc to what I received.
Note, I have been buying what I needed as I could and it has been awhile since purchase. but if they stand by their product (also posted on FB), they will help resolve this. |

Re: Alternator Dilemma Without OEM Manifolds
ok. The cpp kit shows a CS series alternator ands you have a 10si alternator. There might be a height difference in the two alternators.

Re: Alternator Dilemma Without OEM Manifolds
When I was buying it, had them side by side, and only noted the difference with pulley (switched) but could be wrong. Will hit my Friend up at AZ Tuesday, if that is the issue. Higher but limited output with same v-belt pulley was his idea. But the set Grumpy Old Man has looked taller and more arced? I emailed CPP with all the details and pictures too trying to help resolve issue.

Re: Alternator Dilemma Without OEM Manifolds
Thank you Grumpy Old Man!
I noted that even the side to side needed to be shimmed with washers to fit gap for smaller "thickness(?)". And could not find any part numbers on this powder coated bracket. PS. Your engine looks GREAT! Last edited by DJ_Baar; 05-26-2018 at 10:12 PM. Reason: Missed a couple thoughts to share |

Re: Alternator Dilemma Without OEM Manifolds
Found receipt and actually purchased this product from Performance On Line (POL). Sent them a complete detail (best I could without pictures), and bottom line, "Was this a cheap knock-off of CPP product or what?" It needs to fit. See link for their product. https://www.performanceonline.com/Ch...acket-kit-SWP/

Re: Alternator Dilemma Without OEM Manifolds
I found only the following link Warrens69GMC. [url]https://www.yelp.com/biz/performance-online-corona[/ur0l]
From what I see I maybe wasted $$$ & need to buy directly from CPP? Grumpy Old Man, I will let you know, it will be Tuesday before I hear anything back from POL or CPP. Last edited by DJ_Baar; 05-27-2018 at 08:03 AM. Reason: Missed a couple thoughts to share |

Re: Alternator Dilemma Without OEM Manifolds
Grumpy Old Man --- I found the following which is what I think you have chromed?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevrolet-3...EAAOSwG4lZ1kZT That's $79.95 (plus $11 shipping). eBay has the CPP product for $89.00 (free shipping) https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-CHEVY-V...kAAOSwam1aox~l Thoughts? I'm thinking of making an offer & grabbing this original assembly and see how it fits? Looks like it will work fine. |

Re: Alternator Dilemma Without OEM Manifolds
No reply from Performance Online - not surprised. Tried calling and their voice message box was full - I did wait until after holiday weekend plus two days. I did however buy the original Chevy part I found on eBay, keeping fingers crossed that works. I CANNOT recommend POL for their products or standing behind them. Receipt reads "ALL SALES FINAL" and only gives you 30 days or you OWN IT. And we all know how you have setbacks with one thing or another that you cannot get to doing as planned as soon as planned. Life and our projects are what they are.

Re: Alternator Dilemma Without OEM Manifolds
Yeah, I'll never buy from POL again. Incidentally, I believe that the mid-'60s Corvette SB alternator bracket has the smaller radius curve that you would need to keep the fan off the bracket. I think it was from '64. That bracket is not on my truck, it has a BB. I had it on my '64 Impala with an SHP 327.
