rocker replacment
For those of you that have replaced rockers has this area been a problem?
Is there a better fitting one out there ? The key rocker I have looks like it's going to move the weather strip portion out a half inch. I have looked through the threads and some say they fit great, others have pie cut them. 1/4 inch pointer in the photo. Thanks in advance |

Re: rocker replacment
With my install I had a very similar problem just a few small cut and I had it fitting right just fine. that was untill I got the new door rubbers. and had that door slamming thing going on just to close and latch the doors. So after count less hours of adjusting the door I took it to a shop and he had the problem figure out in like 5 min flat. Turned out the lip that holds the rubber seal need to be moved back about a 1/16 of a inch. which was easy to do with hammer dolly set. Now the close and latch and are seal with one finger. So in short yes they will need some massaging to get to fit right and after all that you might need to do a little more massaging to get that perfect. But other then NOS I have not heard of any that are GREAT fits. after all there may be 100 of company's selling them but really only 2 or 3 tops, making them. Measure, measure and brace before you cut out stuff. and get it as close as you can, then test fit before final welding.

Re: rocker replacment
As said above you’ll have to massage them a little here and there. I use sheet metal screws to get them into place and fitting right before I prep and weld them. The set I’m working on with my current K/20 needed some pie cuts on the back and the front to get the radius right. Make sure you test fit them with the doors on before welding them in.

Re: rocker replacment
Make sure you fit with the door on, tack and check things before you get too far into it. Also make sure the cab is braced good and on a solid level support if you have it off the frame and start cutting.

I got a great deal on a cab a couple years ago because the PO welded in the rockers without checking door fitment. When he realized he couldn't get the doors on he practically gave it to me out of disgust. Mind you I still haven't fixed the problem, either.

Re: rocker replacment
Sound advice, thanks everyone! I'll post up when I start cutting.
I bought a stripped cab last year for the dash delete, dash, gb door, and wiring bits. Same deal P.O half tacked it all in and put it up on cl. He had to have more in repair panels than I paid for it. |

The drivers side is always a bear in my experience. The passengers side usually drops right in.
Good luck, Rg
