Chaning Steering Column
WHAT IS INVOLVE IN CHANGING OUT 3 ON THE TREE COLUMN
TO AUTOMATIC. I HAVE THE TRANSMISSION ALREADY WHAT ELSE DO I NEED? |

I just did the same thing if I can remember it all .you will need cross member for auto.The one you have now will need to be removed new column with the shift linkage and the braket that bolts to the frame.or floor shifter.cooling lines for the trans.I got everything I needed from a 86 chevy for $50.if I had it to do over I would get parts for the right year truck.I had to do a lot of custom work on the column to make it work.hope this helps and good luck.

I want to swap out my 3 on the tree for an automatic. My plan is to find a column from a pre'82 Chevy Van. That way you get a shift indicator on the column and you get to use our cool dash-mount ignition switch.

'76 Sierra Grande (Orange) - hate isn't too strong a word. Kid who bought it turned it into a hot rod. '68 C-10 R.I.P. - Dad's old truck...too far gone to resurrect. '59 C-50 - with hoist. Truck is gone, wife isn't. Nuff said. |
