Re: 1986 GMC Dually pickup mud flap help...
I've never heard of having to have mudflaps to pass inspection. Of course, we don't have vehicle inspections here in TN so, maybe that's why I've never heard of it. But I'm curious. What's the reasoning behind it?

Re: 1986 GMC Dually pickup mud flap help...
It is a safety thing, for the same reason that big rigs are required to have mud flaps. It is due to the size of an object that can get stuck between the tires and fling out the back. We don't have inspections here in AZ, but I am required to have them and can be issued a ticket for running without them.

Re: 1986 GMC Dually pickup mud flap help...
That's absurd. If it has a pick up bed on it, mud flaps should not be needed. I could understand if it was some kind of flat bed.
The truck didn't come new with mud flaps. |

Re: 1986 GMC Dually pickup mud flap help...
It is illegal in texas for dual wheel trucks to not have mud flaps. We can have lots of guns and fun diesel trucks and drive around with 12" and 44s if we want to. Mud flaps are ok with me.
Those ones you ordered will be just fine.

Re: 1986 GMC Dually pickup mud flap help...
In a hundred years I never actually thought that I could throw anything out between the wheels of my dualies. I used to run several of them with my landscape biz. Fortunately it never happened.
I have one dually now and I think I'll get some mudflaps for it. ...you know... just to be safe. It certainly isn't expensive and doesn't hurt a thing once they're on the truck. Maybe I can get some made up that say: "Welcome to Tennessee, where the moonshine's over the Smokies in gallon jugs." LOL

2 of the Dually (pickup) trucks don’t have flaps, thus 2 sets

Re: 1986 GMC Dually pickup mud flap help...
Not required here, but I have them anyway.
I was once driving down I-10 and there was a dump truck way up ahead. I thought I was far enough behind to not be hit with anything when a chunk of wood came out of the rear wheels and broke my windshield! It did have mudflaps too! Probably why they have those signs that say "stay back 300 feet"! Mike. |

They also need to be within a certain distance from the road surface. I recall it was 8" max but I would look it up to know for sure. Most likely, as long as they're there you'll be fine but if you're going through the trouble of installing them you might as well ensure they're correctly placed.

Re: 1986 GMC Dually pickup mud flap help...
Ya know... when that's all it takes to get a damned ticket, I AM glad I live in TN. I understand the reasons for this law or THAT law... but when every dog gone Barney Fife is out there writing a ticket at every opportunity JUST to write tickets, it's no surprise when the constanbulary of the U.S. wonders why they they don't get the respect they feel they are due.
Good people try SO hard to respect the police and work within the legal and ethical boundaries. They try to help. Then some turd for brains knight in social armor comes along with his own personal agenda and undoes years of goodwill and honorable intentions in a matter of minutes. Ahh.. America! What a country! LOL I find that, as I get older and older, I just keep a lower and lower profile. ROTFLMAO

If they are targeting it right now, odds are some accident happened due to it and they all have had it drilled into their heads to be on the lookout for it.

Re: 1986 GMC Dually pickup mud flap help...
In California I'm not required to have flaps because it didn't come with them.
