4L80e drops out of drive to D3
I am using a stock auto column from 67-72 with the Lokar rod shift linkage on my 6.0/4L80e. Whenever I get on the gas, the engine torques enough in the mounts drop the trans out of drive into d3 and I have to shift it back to drive after I let up on the gas. Advice on how I can fix this? Anyone else dealt with this?

Good grief, what kind d of motor mounts are you using???? Sounds like what happens when one is broken. You could always use a cable to tie the engine down I guess...

Re: 4L80e drops out of drive to D3
Engine mounts are fine, they are CPP. The trans is mounted to a CPP crossmember. All bolts are properly torqued.
Motor may not be torquing much at all, in neutral it doesn't move a millimeter. The shifter moves very easily (had the pan open recently to change the internal harness and no, the internal detent mechanism isn't broken or bent either) and since I"m using a stock column, the detents on the column don't quite match up (when in Drive, the gear indicator shows between N and D) and the stock shift lever is heavy. If I support the shift lever while accelerating this doesn't happen. Could just be the weight of the shifter and some slight movement (remember, motor mounts and trans mounts have some rubber in them) that is enough to move the shifter. So please, save the grief for someone who died. I'll call Lokar and ask them what they recommend. |

My suburban will pop out of reverse when backing up tye camper trailer. I am thinking a cable or stock type shifter is the answer.

Sounds like it just needs some adjustment...

Re: 4L80e drops out of drive to D3
Just to report back and close this thread out - I followed Lokar's recommendations and adjusted the rod with both the trans and the shifter in D. Problem disappeared. Truck stays in Drive no matter how hard I get on it.
