68 c10 rear mounted gas tank
anyone have some pictures on how you installed the Side fill LMC style tank in the rear? I had to notch top of frame rail to fit filler neck. Now I am putting bed back on and looks like I need to notch the bed crossmember. Anyone else run into this problem?

Re: 68 c10 rear mounted gas tank
Not sure if the LMC tank is covered (I believe so since I've seen pics of some notching frame for side filler neck), ...but here are some links to look through...

Re: 68 c10 rear mounted gas tank
The first 2 links are not working. I have notched the frame. Looking to see how people notched the bed frame rail.

Happen to have any pictures of the notch?? Wondering how much of a notch. Looks like the filler tube on tank interferes as well. Then run the filler hose to tail light. Got any pics of that routing?

Re: 68 c10 rear mounted gas tank
On my 67K10 I had to cut the bed cross support above the tank. I used a 45° bend fuel hose from Filler Neck Supply Co. I used the filler neck from a 70 blazer. Along with the cover and the outside metal for the grommet. I still need to finish the bodywork.

Re: 68 c10 rear mounted gas tank
Here's a shot of mine, hard to get in there. On the rear crossmember, I did have to bend the edge up some to slide the tank back far enough for the full tube to clear the crossbrace.

Re: 68 c10 rear mounted gas tank
elf w/capital T Thanks for the reply man. So you did not use a vented filler tube just that angle type filler tube straight down to a metal or rubber tube with no vent? Do you have any issues with filling the tank ? Like air lock or anything?

Yes filling it up was a pain in the butt, not sure if it was because the filler line was just over 1 inch... not a fan of the lmc sdde fill tank... doesnt have baffles so under 1/2 tank...the gas gauge would. fluctuate and was annoying... I'm actually installing a Boyd's tank now. It has a 2 inch filler and a vent orface... I might get a angled cap with the vent and try that... but I just got my 2inch fuel filler hose and HOLY smokes, its night and day comparing the two |
