About my Camaro...
Since some of you asked in another thread, I decided to get out of 1FaastC10's post and start my own.
The top pics are what it used to look like. The bottom pics are what it looked like when I pulled it out of storage for 7 years. Here are the pics that prompted the conversation...

Now let me put all this in perspective. My wife bought the car new in October of 1983. At the time we had no idea that these cars were be stolen as fast as they were being bought.
We decided to keep the car garaged, and just drive it on nice days. That plan worked until one day we went to a car show with it. We won a huge trophy, and that was the beginning of a long run. I took a few years of doing, and re-doing, but the end result was a car that had every part except the motor painted, chrome plated, or custom in some way. We did very well on the out door show scene. I decided to go a different direction, and got involved in the custom car stereo competition's. It took a few tries, but in the end we did very well there too. After a few years of this, it was time for something different. My wife was pregnant, and I was about to buy out my company. I needed the cash, so I sold the car and trailer to a friend of mine. He wanted to freshen up the interior, put in a bigger sound system, change the wheels, and show it again. That was the beginning of the end. I took the car to the same shop that built the interior before. It was torn apart, and work started, but was never finished. The guys lost interest at the shop, and wouldn't work on it. After almost a year of it collecting shop dust, I broght it to my house, since I was over seeing the project. That's when the owner lost interest. It sat in may garage for quit a while. My wife decidded it needed to go so she could park her car in the garage. I moved it to one of my warehouses, and it sat. I tried to start it every once in a while, but eventually the battery died. The warehouse that it was in didn' have any electricity, so couldn't charge it. Since it was no longer my car, I lost interest in it too, and it sat for about 6 years. The sad part is it has thousands of dollars of chrome on it that is rusted beyond salvage. Eventually another friend and the owner of the Camaro were trading trucks back and forth, and the Camaro got involved in the deal. My buddy decided that I should get the car back, and sold it too me. The title had never been changed out of my wifes name. The guy that bought it never drove it, or even sat in the drivers seat. I guess it was meant to be our car all along. Now my 11 year old daughter wants it restored for her to drive. It looks like I will be doing it again.... |

Wow, that's an interesting story. There's just something cool about those last two pictures. They leave questions of mystery to be asked.
My brother has had two third-gens and they're cool cars.

sounds kind of like mine... i bought it about this time 2 years ago, from the original owner. originally the asking price was $500 since someone had stolen the stock LG4. i went back a few days after i found out what the asking price was, it seemed fair so i was going to make a deal with the owner to make payments on it. upon making the 3rd $100 payment (3rd week, i had just started a new job) he handed me the title, and told me not to worry about the rest of the money. "he knew i'd take care of it and make something nice out of it. i worked on it all winter. i dropped my 355 in it, replaced the fuel lines, did some brake work, and other minor things. then in the spring i brought it out, and tinkered with it through the summer. in late summer my buddy's Iroc was stolen, and he was in the market for another car. he made me an offer i couldnt refuse. i got all of the money i had in it bck and then some. he drove the car for a while, and then it started to "overheat" so he parked it. he lost interest in fixing it and bought a Grand Prix. when he went to boot camp a few months ago he told him mom to sell the car to pay off some of his debt to her. needless to say, he lost the title, and never titled it in his name. his mom and i went to the BMV and applied for a lost title. after thinking about it for a few days i decided i'd like to have it back. i went and talked to her about it, and we worked out a deal. $1000 for me to get my car back... that's $1000 less than what i sold it for. i couldnt pass it up since it's got $800 worth of aluminized mandred bent exhaust on it. right now its sitting at my cousin's house, waiting on the 86 to get done, and the cab from the 82 to disappear. i'll bring it home one day soon, and then the fun begins again. oh yeah, n2trux, we're even now.

Jeremy,
That looks like a solid car. The bad part about these is they fall apart if not cared for. It looks like you have a really solid car to work with. I love the T/A wing too. I had the rear wing custom built on my car, but I may take it off, and use a T/A wing intead. It looks like we do have similiar stories. I think it's cool when something that was once important in your life returns for a second time... |

I dug up an old motor pic. It was a 305 HO. Not too fast with an auto, but still fast enough to be fun...

ok, does anyone here NOT have a black F-body? i wonder if Josh could set us up with an F-body section? hehe
thanks for the compliments on the car. it is a pretty solid car, but as any used car, it still needs some TLC. the major things with this one are the paint job (lots of runs, painted over decals, plenty of dry shots ) and the interior. ironically enough, the worst part of the car is the seats. the guy i bought it from has run an upholstery shop for the last 20 or so years, and this was his wife's car. N2TRUX:
I have a Camaro with more dust on it than yours! Mine is a '67 RS 327. I have not had the time or money to work on it in about 7 years. I hope to pull it out of the cobwebs in the next few months and get it on the road. Slonaker |

I sold my truck to my best friends dad last week, so it could go back to their family. The bright spot in that for me is I get my 40K Special Edition T/A back. I had to sell it to my buddy to make the down payment on my house, and I have missed it ever since. I am sure I will have another truck project soon, if the current one doesn't kill me first.
