Re: My bed has started rattling like its loose

Retightening the bed to frame bolts is almost routine maintenance...I think over time with periodic loading, and bumps collapse the bed metal and cross members just enough to cause the bolts to loose their initial torque. Once loose, the hammering effect will cause a nut to loosen even when lock washers are used. A flat washer under a lock washer can loosen as well because the flat washer can slide instead of biting like the lock washer alone would. I have to retighten my bed to frame bolts (wood bed) once a year. No biggie because I'm usually underneath for other maintenance anyway. Might try 2" X 2" X 1/4" thick neoprene rubber spacers with nylon aircraft style lock nuts to see if that would hold?

Rotten rubber body mounts -- decomposing and falling away, maybe?
Hard to say from here without pix.

Re: My bed has started rattling like its loose

On the 1960's 1960--66 had wood beds.I know they used rubber square bushings to put between the bed and the frame. It makes it so much nicer.it takes 2 people to put the bed o.You can use glue to make sure they stay in place but its helps me so much having cushion.Look in www.truckandcarshop.com web side look for Rubber cushions for under bed.It will really help your problem

There call bed wood mounting pads page 91 10.00 kit Me i buy a few kits cus it nice having them around

I would not discount other things as Grumpy says , I had what I thought was a Bed rattle also ,and kept thiking it was the front of the bed as you do and I would have sworn to it being the culprit , then after going through the bed and found nothing ,I thought it was my filler neck gasket had worn through .Nope, then after driving myself nuts for months looking for this rattle I just gave up, then one day I happened to put a jacket behind my seat and noticed my rattle was gone , it was one of my seat springs that would vibrate against the gas tank in certain driving conditions. So you really never know till you really find it and correct it.

Re: My bed has started rattling like its loose

I'll have to check the bolts on my bed. I've never done it in the 10 years that I've had the truck.

So was the ''Bed Noise'' really the muffler fixin' to blow? Or do you still have the bed noise?

Re: My bed has started rattling like its loose

I had the pipe and one muffler added to my son's Dart to make it dual exhaust and got skinned $345 here in California, ten years ago. Labor prices are quite different between the two places.

Re: My bed has started rattling like its loose

$250 is a good price...

LMC lists dual systems between $260 and $300...with stainless running $680...

Dont scrimp on the exhaust...

Re: My bed has started rattling like its loose

I know of a good muffler shop in Murfreesboro Tn
But with the gas prices it would
probably not be an option for you.

I'm sure you meant aluminized. Any welder who knows anything doesn't weld galvanized anything without stripping the zinc. I know guys who didn't and died from inhaling the zinc oxide fumes.

Re: My bed has started rattling like its loose

On my 68 it was the upper rear shock mounts. Factory rivets were loose and made a terrible rattle over even the smallest bumps. I cut them off and used short shoulder bolts to replace the rivets. Big difference.

Re: My bed has started rattling like its loose

I put rubber pads made from inner tubes between the bed and the frame where the fasteners hold the bed to the frame. glued in place by a calking gun full of black window sealer I bought from Ace for about 4 bucks. other sourced of noise could be a loose tail gate, loose shocks or a spare tire hanging loose under the bed.

Re: My bed has started rattling like its loose

I think the rubber pads between bed n frame are bad.
