Recommend some exhaust mufflers

I put my 4.8L last year and I can't say that I care for the exhaust I have on it. It's too loud in light throttle applications, too loud when it starts, and sounds like a firecracker when it goes from 2500-3000 rpm. They are thrush welded mufflers.

I have dual 2.5" pipes with no H pipe or crossover. I wanted to add an H pipe, but space is tight where it should go.

I'm looking for something quieter for normal driving. I don't care if it's still pretty quiet at rpm, but also don't care if it's loud. I would like to stay under $100 for each muffler. Any recommendations?

I have the same as you, with Sanderson CSLS1 shortie headers and good old glass packs. Smooth at idle and moderate acceleration but if you step on it, it’s just enough to irritate the neighbors.

You have to do any frame modification or they fit right in?

I have a set of walker super quite mufflers I'm gonna try..I don't know if I'm gonna like em or not..my other truck has headers and a set of magflow...not magnaflow....I think they're a knockoff...love the sound...not overly loud but has a nice rumble..

I needed something tame enough for the HOA with but with enough rumble to turn heads. The large Dynomax Super Turbos are what I went with

Re: Recommend some exhaust mufflers

I've run the turbo style mufflers on a handful of vehicles. I really like them. Quiet enough for a DD. More of an open exhaust type of sound - throatier, deeper. A good bit louder when you get on it. I find it to be a good balance.

You put an X or H pipe in or just run straight out on each side?

Re: Recommend some exhaust mufflers

I just got done with a complete front to back system. 2.5 pipes, dual cats, H pipe crossover, Flowmaster 2 chamber Super 44 mufflers, side exit tail pipes behind rear wheels.

I picked the Flowmaster after hearing a bunch of YouTube clips comparing Magnaflow vs. Flowmaster. I was looking for a deep mellow tone that was more growl than snapping and popping. (think Fox body Mustang 5.0 sound)

Really like the sound of my system. sounds really good but not loud. Even as the engine revs up, it has sound but never too loud. just when you expect it to start sounding rowdy, it almost gets quieter. I have not noticed a drone yet, but have done very little highway cruising in my first 200 miles.

The entire system was expensive but worth it. wish I could post a video of it here but cannot get to upload my 30 sec clip.

Straight out the back with 18” x 4” SS echo chambers. Nice and grumbly!

Re: Recommend some exhaust mufflers

I have very large DynoMax on my cars and truck. I like them in both applications.

They are quiet and do NOT have any drone at part throttle. But they are loud and aggressive under full load, which I like. But quiet (while sounding serious) the rest of the time.

Here's a video. The phone doesn't pick up any of the deep bass sound, but it serves to show that you can really only hear it at the rear and not up front.

Re: Recommend some exhaust mufflers

I have tried recently two different mufflers.
The Dynomax Super Turbo Muffler and the Flowmaster 40 series Delta Flow muffler.

I run an LS3 with mid-length headers (DT 1 3/4") through 2.5" tubing with an H-pipe, dumped near the axle.

The Dynomax Super Turbo Muffler is fairly quite, sounds pretty decent.
The Flowmaster 40 series Delta Flow is surprisingly not as loud as I thought it would be, and sounds quite good. For now I am going stick with the Flowmaster, it just sounds better to me, and better than the video can reproduce.

You can listen to both of them here and judge for yourself.

Re: Recommend some exhaust mufflers

Mine are the 14" long casing and overall 18" length, part number 17734. It's the more typical turbo muffler size and same size as the Flowmasters. The 20" case or 25.5" overall seemed kind of long where I wanted them, they might have fit though. Either of the mufflers will be quieter as well if they exited all the way to the rear.
