Low mount power setaring pump
I was wondering if a low mount power steering pump for a 350 will fit on our trucks. Does anyone run one do they have any issues?

Re: Low mount power setaring pump
Back in the day I ran one from a van. They mount to the bottom holes on the block and one on the first bolt for the exhaust. I did this because I didn't have accessory holes on my 283. I think I still have the pump somewhere. Might have to use it on my other truck.

Re: Low mount power setaring pump
It cleared the frame rail with no problems?

Re: Low mount power setaring pump
I was looking at the one that vintage air sells and i was worried that it might hit the frame rail.

Re: Low mount power setaring pump
I have one similar to that on my tk. The pulley is close to the frame rail so short belt size is a must. better to have an early pump with a k-way pulley.

Re: Low mount power setaring pump
Forest,
I just posted a low mount steering pump installation on my build thread " 1966 K20 adventure rig". It should still be on page one.

Re: Low mount power setaring pump
In the photos it looks like it gets really close to the frame.

Re: Low mount power setaring pump
It isn't really. The pulley is a comfortable distance from the frame. I also have a belt that is an inch shorter, which will create more distance from the frame. I'll install the shorter belt and post a better photo.

Re: Low mount power setaring pump
I used an Alan Grove 400L bracket on my '64 with a 350 for years with no frame interference issues.

Re: Low mount power setaring pump
the shortest belt is harder to install--way the key-way pulley.

Re: Low mount power setaring pump
The power steering pump installed in that position is normally used with a short water pump. The short water pump is what all trucks '55-'72 came with from the factory. You likely could use it with a long water pump, if you can get the correct pulley that will line up.
