Question Which rear end is the best rear end?

I can't remember if I posted this quesion before, but humour me.

I'm installing a front crossmember and spindles from a '84 Chevy into my '68. I'll need a new rear end so that I've got 5 bolt rims all around. My goal is to run a 400 SB with 425 HP with a 700R4 behind it. Which rear end would be a good swap-in?

1969 GMC 32,000 - fix, drive, relax, fix...
2019 BMW R1250 GSA - Yahoooooooo
1979 Honda GL 1000 - retro touring at its best.

Past:
'05 Sierra 4x4 - Had 270,000 KM and running well when it was written-off by a stop sign runner.
'94 F-150 from the "F word" company. I'll admit it...good truck. Sold what was left of it for $800 to a guy who came to pick it up at 11:00 PM with cash in hand. Hmm.
'79 Sierra Grande (Black) organ donor - perfect rebuildable 4-bolt 350 and a good TH350.
'76 Sierra Grande (Orange) - hate isn't too strong a word. Kid who bought it turned it into a hot rod.
'68 C-10 R.I.P. - Dad's old truck...too far gone to resurrect.
'59 C-50 - with hoist. Truck is gone, wife isn't. Nuff said.

WELL....blasted my 12 bolt truck rear end right out of my 85

had to do a 4800.00 fab 9...now i blasted 2nd gear out of the th400 w/2800.00 invested in that

850h.p. to much????? i don't think so....it sure is fun

I'm not going to race the truck, but that doesn't mean that I wont' get leadfootitis from time to time. Mostly cruising?

Are you asking for strength or ease of swap? You will blow the 700r4 long before you waste any truck rear end.

They are very rare but I once parted out a 69 longbed 1/2 ton. With a Dana 60. It had non-full floating axles and it was a posi. That is the only one I have ever seen. One of the axles was bent at the flange because the truck had rolled. Moser made me another one. Has any other members ever run into one of these rearends? It also had the provision for the panhard bar cast into the housing. Used it on a 69 GMC shortfleet with a 396 and a 700R4. That was one beefy differential.

I think a 12-bolt truck rear would work fine...i have heard they are as strong stock as a Ford 9". Should bolt right in with the correct conversion U joint too

Just get a 5 lug 71/72 rear.
Bolts in, no fabbing, and you know it'll fit.
