Dana 60 Axle?
Hello together,
i own a 1965 GMC truck but i'm not sure if it is a 1500 or a 2500. The brakes in the rear are 1500. The seller told me it is a 3/4ton (2500). I'm confused Now i need help please with the axle. I think it is a Dana 60. I do a frame off restoration and at the moment i'm repairing the bearings of the hub/wheel. I've ordered TIMKEN bearings (28678/28622 and 18690/18620) but i have problems to find the right bearing seal. The inner diameter of the seal is 60mm (2,36 inch?) and the outer Diameter of the seal is 98mm (3,85 inch ?). here you can find some photos Greetings from Austria |

Re: Dana 60 Axle?
By the way: that's the current state of the back of the truck. Completely derusted and painted
I also remade the fixing of the leaf springs (screwed instead of rivets because they were damaged) + 2" lowering shackles |

Re: Dana 60 Axle?
This is your axle number...
And the axle is 3/4t... Any decent parts store should be able to get those seals...if you clean the seal really good there may be numbers on it...if a parts store cant help you ,then go to a dedicated bearing and seal type store.. That frame turned out nice!!

Re: Dana 60 Axle?
1960-1966 GMC: 1000 series=1/2 ton, 1500 series= 3/4 ton, 2500 series = 1 ton. Your VIN# will show this as well. Leaf springs and Dana axles are further evidence of quality features built into standard 2WD GMC's

Re: Dana 60 Axle?
One question. Is it necessary to put grease into the bearings or is the fluid of the differential enough?
