I'll ask around and see if anyone has a factory repair manual for an '86. It's pretty new for my gang, though.

You should still have the brake cancel switch above the brake pedal. The 12 volt wire went though this switch to the low vac switch on the firewall beside the brake booster, then to the tranny. This is basically it, but more than likely there is a ton of other crap related to the lockup, such as the EGR bleed solenoid. There is no computer involved in the lock up. Didn't have one.
Now after saying this, after you get it working, you'll probably unhook it again. I know when these things first come out, they were real irritating. It's like you could feel it locking and unlocking all the time while driving. This is why everyone unhooked them in the first place.

yes it would, but Mike is right, you'll probably end up disconnecting it anyways. i did with mine, and that trans has 80,000 miles on it since i had it rebuilt.

I never could figure out the point of it. I think it was GM's feeble way of trying to get better mileage or something. With the converter locked, the tranny is like a manual in a way. It has a direct drive function, with no slippage like a normal TH350 has.
From all the vehicles I've drove with TH350C's, I would leave it unhooked. If you are like me, it will drive you nuts. Sort of feels like it is surging and not running quite right or something. |
