1969 Gas Filter Replacement

I want to replace the gas filter on the quadrajet carburetor, the issue that I'm having is that there is no room to fit my 1" open end wrench on the bolt due to the ports above and below the connection. If the wrench was "thin", it would probably work....was there a special wrench for this type of application ?

You might try taking the fuel line off and use a socket.

another old wrench and a grinder. Doesn't have to be that strong. good lick.

However you end up doing it...be very careful, those old Q-Jets are very prone to stripping out that carb fitting!!!

I removed the fuel line.... still unable to fit a socket on the bolt head due to the outlet ports on the top and bottom...don't want to grind my Craftsman wrench, maybe I'll purchase a cheaper brand wrench to grind.... but there had to be specialized wrench ( GM or Snap-on ? ) to get in there between those ports and the filter housing...

Yes, there is a special wrench for that. I have had one for years. I'm not at the shop now to get the brand name off it. I believe it is Snap-on. It is like a tubing wrench but is thin & is 12 point.

Make a line wrench from a 1" box end wrench.. Cut a section out, making the cut in such a way that the cut out clears those ports and still allows some "swing" room. Depending on the particular wrench you use, some grinding may also be required. Big wrenches usually carry a bigger price tag.. If money/cost is an issue with you, a Harbor Freight wrench will work just fine.. I made mine over 40 years ago and still use it occasionally.
