Choke question
My current project is a 76 K20... was it possible to have a factory manual choke on these or by this time were they all electric at this point?

Re: Choke question
You want a manual choke? Well stick a 1405 Edelbrock on it and there's your manual choke.

Re: Choke question
I don’t think there ever was a manual choke on a quadrajet. Rochester 2 bbl’s had them up to 72 IIRC.
Your 76 was possibly a hot air choke style. I had a hot air choke 2bbl on a 74. Hot air choke can be converted to electric though. A pic of your carb would tell what style choke it is. |

Re: Choke question
These years GM was doing the heavy half ton to avoid emissions. My 76 truck GVWR 6200 had no cats or air, and ran on leaded gas. Perhaps the unleaded smog trucks had different chokes?

Re: Choke question
They were all divorced in 76 like Justin said. I put a hand choke on my Qjet because I have an Edelbrock intake and I didn't want to spend $75 for the choke kit.

Re: Choke question
My 75 had a divorced choke. If you remove the heat stove and study how the linkage works, you will find there is a thin arm in the linkage that is perfect to drill a small hole for the choke cable. At least there was on my 75. Can't take picts, used that carb as a core trade for rebuilt one for a Camaro many years ago. Currently running a Eddy 1405. Still using the same choke cable.

Re: Choke question
I have an edelbrock intake and a 1406 carburetor on mine, but they come both electric and manual choke. Mine is in need of a rebuild and its a manual choke that's not hooked up at the moment, so I was thinking if they had manual chokes id just install one but wanted it near original location.. thanks for the replies guys! and if you don't mind posting a picture id love to see OEM stuff

Re: Choke question
its NOT a c/k 10-30 but here is the factory location of the choke pull on my 1988 gmc 7000 dump truck with gas 366 bbc engine .
use this for a idea of placement of if the factory did do one .
