Shift Linkage

[66_C20]

I tried searching and it came up with a very wide variety of results but couldn’t quite find the answer for my case. I have a 66 C20 that I’m putting a 454 in with a turbo 400 backed up behind it. I also have an aftermarket tilt steering column that is shifted on the column. I’m looking for information on what to do about a shift linkage from the shifter on the column down to the trans. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Google for a Column Shift Linkage Kit. You will want to measure the distance between the column shift arm at the end of the column to the transmission shift arm on the trans. Then shop for the best product.

Somebody has a cable setup for a column shift. Maybe Lokar?

Take the linkage and the lower bracket off of a 73-87 chevy truck. I have a 65 with a 454 and a 700r4 and it works good.

David is right, this is the way to go. You just have to drill a couple holes in the frame rail, and this setup keeps engine movement from changing gears on you.

On my '66 Suburban with a 454 and TH400, I fabricated my own linkage similar to the Shiftworks item linked by Rocknrod. In over 120,000 miles I have never had any issues with it.

The shiftworks kit you linked looks pretty good. If I can’t find a linkage off a square body truck, that’s probably the route I’ll go.

This is what I was thinking about but wasn’t sure if it would work or not. Glad to hear people have had success going this route. Would just have to find a good donor truck to pull it from.

Very good to hear you’ve gotten some good use out of a fabricated kit based of the shiftworks product. That’s could be an option.

Yeah Lokar was what came up on my initial search, I was just looking for other options to consider.
