Front Bumper Braket I.D. Thread
I have a bunch of bumper brackets not doing anybody any good until I can identify what is what for which truck. Here is the hard part, I do not presently have a way to take and post pictures. So, I am asking for anyone with pictures of brackets they know the identity of to post pictures, or anyone with ones laying around to take pictures to post. I figure this thread can be a good reference for all to search in the future. I get half way through the pile thinking I have it figured out, then come across other variations that mess me up. Even knowing how many variations and what they are would help w/o pictures. I know 2wd 67-70 and 71/72 Chevy are two variations. Is 67-72 GMC the same? I assume the 4wds break down the same as 2wd? I would think there would be 67-70 C/Chevy, 71/72 C/Chevy, 67-70 K/Chevy, 71/72 K/Chevy, 67-72 C/GMC, and 67-72 K/GMC. So six variations? I wish I had marked these things when I pulled them!

Re: Front Bumper Braket I.D. Thread
Thanks Paul. I just looked and found that 67-72 GMC is same bracket as 67-70 Chevy, so only four styles. What threw me off was I have a bracket marked 71/72 GMC 4wd. Now I need pictures to compare to what I have.

Re: Front Bumper Braket I.D. Thread
Here are two sets of GMC brackets that I have. The shorter ones are 4x4, the longer are 2wd.

Re: Front Bumper Braket I.D. Thread
Thanks Scott. That takes care of GMC and 67-70 Chevy. I'm going to go cut firewood, Dale, but I will dig these out to start checking later. I know the difference is due to the lights in the bumper on 71/72 Chevys. And I'm assuming 4wd are shorter than 2wd. We'll get this figured out. This is one problem that comes from sitting on parts, unlabeled, for so long... and forgetting any info I haven't used in a while. I used to have lots of trucks to compare to, but................

Re: Front Bumper Braket I.D. Thread
Dale, I forgot I don't have a way to take & post pictures at the moment. My daughter gave me a camera but needs to get the battery to me. Also, I laid them out and am still confused. I seem to have some from other years, so can't use process of elimination. Need pictures of both C & K 71/72 Chevy to be sure.
Once I got them out I saw one thing that had me messed up. I have a N.O.S. bracket I bought that is marked 67-70 C10-30 and the other one I marked 67-70 Chevy and all GMC 4wd. I have my '72 K2500 to compare to, but thought maybe they were the same as 67-70 2wd, yet I have more than four styles. I probably should have waited to post this until I could take pictures. Does anyone have pictures of either type of 71/72 Chevy brackets? I have a bunch that I think are 71/72 C and one that is as short as the GMC k ones http://s190.photobucket.com/user/Cle...ml?sort=3&o=19

Re: Front Bumper Braket I.D. Thread
Theses are 71-72 4wd front bumper brackets ! Identifiable by the indentation for clearance around the directionals in the front bumper !

I would be interested in the 71-72 4x4 brackets if you decide to sell them.

Re: Front Bumper Braket I.D. Thread
There 1-3/4" shorter and they are formed differently in other areas if you look at the other pics.

Re: Front Bumper Braket I.D. Thread
Thanks to both of you for posting the C & K 71/72 brackets. We have it all now in one thread for future reference. Now to go through what I have and sort it out. I am sure I have others from other applications. I have a solo that I marked 60-66 rear, IIRC, Stepside. I also have a set of rear brackets for 67-72 coils for my '67 project. So maybe I'll start a rear bracket thread. I'll take the odd ones after sorting and go about identifying those as well. Pretty sure most of what I have are fronts.

Re: Front Bumper Braket I.D. Thread
No problem. More questions invited. The intent with this thread is to answer all questions involving front bumper brackets for now and in future searches. Also, does anyone have a good bean soup recipe? I have a hambone I stuck in the freezer.
All 67-72 2wd brackets would be the same if not for the running lamp/turn signals being moved to the bumper. That is where the difference lies. that's why 67-72 GMCs are all the same.

Re: Front Bumper Braket I.D. Thread
You did a great job on those. Are they powder coated? My plan is to refurbish mine once all identified, which I'm good to go so far with the 67-72 fronts. Thanks again for contributing. Sure you wouldn't wanna sel......... Nevermind
I appreciate that. I happen to love peas soup. The funny thing is, I have made bean soup and I can still remember how easy and delicious it was... 10 or more years ago! But that's the problem, I don't remember what I did

Re: Front Bumper Braket I.D. Thread
I figured blasted in some way. I have a commercial/industrial painter who does all that for me. Sure makes for a nice finish...and superior adhesion! Looks ever bit as good as powder coat. The guy I mentioned uses epoxy primer and always asks, "Why do you want to power coat?" I was all about the powder coat for years going way back. Had a shop that had been doing it for decades, a leading national shop, not 10 miles from me, and we had a great relationship. He retired and not so sure about the new guy. He turned me off on my first inquiry. A good urethane job does the trick!

Re: Front Bumper Braket I.D. Thread
I'm bringing this thread back so I can show what I have so we can work this down to the nitty gritty. I took a picture of them all.
The one with the light purple dot, upper right, is marked 60-66 Stepside. The dark purple next to it is very similar and I wonder if it's a 67-72 Stepside or the mate to the 60-66. The red dots are 67-70 front with the pairs circled. I had one marked '68 C/10. The yellow dots are not exactly the same as the red but almost. They look like they would interchange. The upper end in the picture has more squared corners and the two holes in the straight area are missing. When you lay one on a red dot they fit the same as another red dot. The blue dots are much longer, I believe they are '71/'72 Chevy The green dots are slightly longer than the red dots, not as long as the blue. Maybe an earlier year?
