Rebuild gearbox?

I have a 71 C10 should I rebuild the gear box or just buy a new one and replace it?

Re: Rebuild gearbox?

Rebuilt mine and would do it again in a heartbeat. Be sure to run the numbers on the box to get the right kit. Some boxes have different diameter shafts inside and require certain kits.

Re: Rebuild gearbox?

Are you referring to an SM465? Or do you have a different gearbox in your truck?

Novak is a good source for parts.

Re: Rebuild gearbox?

You need a couple special tools (pin spanner, low scale in/lb torque wrench, and a good unit service manual).

Also attention to detail is important.
