Factory points starter wiring
What wires should be connected to the starter solenoid on a factory points setup? It's a '72 TH350/350. The PO had started a restoration, transmission was removed and the starter was too. I see the wiring harness hanging down, just want to put everything back where it should be. Thanks.

Re: Factory points starter wiring
Not sure if the original harness is there but you basically have 3 connections
The cable from the battery should be obvious due to its size, one stud should be marked "S" (is closest to the block) this will be the heavier purple wire that only has power when you turn the key to the start or crank position, there should also be a yellow wire from the outside stud marked "I" it goes to the positive side of the coil, it supply's a temporary while cranking 12 volts to your coil, the orange/purple wire is your 9 volt resisted supply to the positive side of the coil it may also use the "I" stud as a connection point. Depending on if your harness has been tampered with over the years use this diagram as a guideline to match up your wire colors and routing. https://c1.staticflickr.com/4/3645/3...425a69b4_b.jpg Last edited by Sheepdip; 02-14-2019 at 02:14 PM. |
