Small block Chevy 350 compression
I was wondering if there is someone out there that could tell me what is going on with my motor regarding these numbers when I did a compression check on the motor it is a 1970 350 bored 30 over RV cam stock heads motor has 36thousand miles on it. Edelbrock intake Quadrajet carburetor long tube headers. Any help would be much appreciated since my service manuals that I have you're not giving me any help thank you very much appreciate it

Re: Small block Chevy 350 compression
Except for 1 and 3 it’s not bad. Generally you follow the 10% rule. Take 10% of the lowest (156) which is about 16 and add that and your highest should read near 172. Six of yours fit that.
Did you block the carb wide open when you tested? |

Re: Small block Chevy 350 compression
High numbers can also come from cam lobes going flat on thise cylinders...beware...

Re: Small block Chevy 350 compression
Thanks for replying to my issue,geezer#99 did have carb wide open, i saw i forgot to say that.
68Gold/white i have heard that cams have been made with substandard metals and have gone flat even after initial break-in period. After I changed my oil and filter and spark plugs again I'm going to readjust the valves reset the timing and do another compression test thanks for all the input really appreciate it thanks guys |

Re: Small block Chevy 350 compression
Cut apart your filter when you change it. Look for shiny metal.
Before you adjust valves check to see they all move the same amount. |

Re: Small block Chevy 350 compression
Will do geezer#99, I am crossing the fingers that there's nothing wrong with the camshaft but if there is I'll put a bigger one in it then we'll give me the excuse to put better heads on it as well
