Re: Unobtanium?
Last time I heard prices, the drums were about $250.00 each. I needed drums, brake shoes and misc. parts and I still had the wrong gears.(4.56) Decided to go with a 2002 silverado 14 bolt with disk brakes and 3.73 gears. Rear axle cost me $150.00 and got the brackets from Captain Fab. Took some work but I am much happier with the truck and parts are cheap. Just a thought.

Re: Unobtanium?
I see this at Amazon. Maybe it fits? I buy all my parts at a local NAPA, but sometimes I have to go behind the counter and look at the computer myself. They've lost some of those people, though. The old hands there know their stuff.

Re: Unobtanium?
It's not an answer, but they've been putting custom brackets and C20 front rotors and callipers on the rears for quite a long time. This eliminates the E-brake. You can use something like 79-82 Eldorado callipers that have a mechanical E-brake, but they're expensive and finicky.
Another possible solution is swap to 14 bolt drums or disks. See https://www.pirate4x4.com for more info, or google. |

Re: Unobtanium?
NAPA #ND 440-1137 looks to be part number you need , but looking at NAPA ONLINE it appears to be something that would have to be ordered at most stores. You may call your local store and have them check the whse.

Re: Unobtanium?
Tried ordering parts suggested from supplier, they came in and did not fit..
Seems there is something different about the rear end of this truck that used a different rear drum.. My truck has rear coil springs, Now we are going to try ordering the springs for a Leaf Suspension and see if the will work..

Re: Unobtanium?
I agree.
I’ve seen no mention of which rear you have? It could be an Eaton, a Dana 60 or maybe even a 14 bolt someone swapped in. Take some pictures of the housing and we can get you pointed in the right direction.

Re: Unobtanium?
Dana 60 with Coils Yahoo! Thats a great setup. That type of rear suspension digs in and hooks up for better traction.
Napa, as much as I do not like them has all the original parts. I use CarQuest or Advance Auto for Shoes. They are better quality with fully bonded and riveted shoe material with more material than Napa crap. It matters Napa! OEM spec calls for riveted shoes. They tried to sell some new glue crap that is supposed to hold up. I am not going to risk that one. I have drums all the way around on my rig and properly done have not failed me in over 12 years. Its cheaper to rebuild the current setup and I am not towing or hauling much. I did in the past and they worked fine. |

Re: Unobtanium?
For some reason, the Rear ends with Coil Springs use a different Drum. Trucks with Leaf Springs use a different drum.

Re: Unobtanium?
Is it easy to find used drums from maybe from an old wet state breakers truck that’s gone too far. You could shot blast them and maybe give them a scim in the lathe and call them refurbished. A business idea there for someone.
