The Door seals don’t

Hi
I have got the door shut lines on my 56 GMC perfect, and installed new door seals. The problem is that they don’t fit at all well, to the extent that I can see daylight through the leading edge of the door when I’m in the drivers seat.
At 60 mph it’s like a windy day in the cab.
The seals are made by Counter Part.
Has anyone had a similar experience with Counter Part seals, or is there an alternative maker that has a larger cross section seal?
Looking forward to hearing you thoughts.
Steve

Re: The Door seals don’t

It "might" be an issue with how you installed them. The direction that the door seals install is a bit counter to what you would think.
The narrow part of the seal is glued to the door and the wide part is the sealing area.
Hopefully someone on the forum can post a picture.
It seems odd the the gap lines and doors are flush to the body but you can still see light or gaps.

The seals aren't glued, but retained by small barbed plastic pins that push into holes in the door skin.

Doh!
Taking 01spirit750's advice, I think I have put the seals on the wrong way round...
I just found a thread on this site that links to an guide on the Brothers site that shows how to install the rubbers, including a picture of how not to do it, which looks exactly like the way round I have mine.
I'll swap them over, an let you know how I get on.

As my friend OGRE said, some have made mistakes installing the seals, I did to and it sure was a noisy 1st ride

Most of us have done that. I did it with my last truck and they were glued on so it meant buying new ones.

Can you post a picture of how they should be for future reference for all?

Re: The Door seals don’t

If they look like they're on there right, they usually aren't.

The way they fit is counter intuitive. They do NOT conform to the shape of the door edge. Instead they "fold" to seal when the door is closed. Also, even though I got hot pants and didn't, everyone who wants the best should use Steele Rubber.

Re: The Door seals don’t

Rather than me posting pictures, just type in “door seals” into this sites search function, and you find that my mistake has been made by many others, and they have posted pictures to show the right way to do it.
Luckily for me I hadn’t glued the seals down, and managed to reuse all the plastic pins again.
