58 Apache sun visor
So one of these is not like the other. Does anyone know why this would be? This is the original cab and pillar. It just doesn't gave the large hole for the visor bracket spring to go into. I found no evidence of it being welded up or replaced. Do the make different visor for the passenger side? I'm at a loss. Rob. |

"Okay folks, step away from the A pillar. There's nothing to see here."
That's factory., The instructions for installing a RH visor include "Drill hole 1-1/2 inch diameter." http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com...cpctai207.html Last edited by 1project2many; 06-19-2019 at 05:22 AM. |

Re: 58 Apache sun visor
Yeah... I imagine there aren't too many people that happen to have a 1-1/2" hole saw around. And the smart ones are going to be nervous about using it because the roof panel is close to the inside panel. I honestly can't even remember how I put the hole in mine. Probably using a rotary file on a die grinder.

Re: 58 Apache sun visor
^^^ 1project2many is spot on. That is factory. My low option 59 did not have a passenger sun visor and has the same stamping. Some vendors used to include a paper template with the RH interior visor so it could be located correctly. I plan on doing the same as you. Your passengers will like you better if they don't have to squint or hold a hand up to shade their eyes.

Re: 58 Apache sun visor
Most of the standard trucks did not come with a RH visor. Custom cab trucks often did. The Rh visor is different than the LH.

Re: 58 Apache sun visor
Interesting. How is it different? I did what many people did and used a LH visor for the right side of my truck. After the new upholstery it looked like it belonged there.

Re: 58 Apache sun visor
The visor is symetrical to the left hand visor . They each carry the opposite swing angle. Each has it own Chevrolet part number. If you are at a swap meet and see a bunch of arms look on the back. Next to the part # it will have an RH for the passenger side and a LH for the drivers side.

Re: 58 Apache sun visor
During this thread when the term "visor" was used I was thinking of the visor that you pull down and not the bracket. That's why I said in my previous comment that I thought they were both alike. Hey, I'm old, sometimes it takes me a while to catch on, LOL.

Re: 58 Apache sun visor
There are three stamped indentions where you drill the holes for the screws if the truck has not had a right side visor. I made a template from the driver side and placed it over the three drilled holes on the passenger side to locate the large hole for the right side visor mount. When I bought my visors there was no mention of right and/or left. I have the factory style speaker housing above the windshield and the driver side visor almost touches it but there is a couple of inches between the passenger side visor and it. The speaker housing has a notch for the mirror bracket so can't be moved but this might be why it looks like the drivers side visor should be shorter.

Re: 58 Apache sun visor
Thank you all for the info. I never would have thought that having a passenger visor (or stamped hole for one) would be considered an upgrade. I guess I'll have to get out my hol saw and get er done. FYI... my truck looks much beetr in person than the picture... silver and black with metallic
