Chopped
Fresh out of the chop shop, a new shortbed is born!
I’m fairly new on this site and not much of a mechanic yet. I’ve always been into woodworking and home improvement. I bought this truck out of Denver, had it shipped to Dayton Oh. The long bed was already removed and the purchase came with the new short bed in boxs strapped to the back of a long bed frame. I decided to pay somebody to chop the frame and all the odds and ends that came with that job, thought it might be too much for a newbie. I’ve got a couple thousand dollars worth of suspension and brake parts sit in the garage that I’m getting ready to get into from early classic enterprises. I got the 3.5/5 drop kit, New brakes all around with front disk, brake booster, 5 lug rear axles and misc. wish me luck 🤨 |

Re: Chopped
Looks good. I've been debating on having mine cut for a while. Mind if I ask what the shop charged for the whole job? I had a place here quote me 80 hours of labor to do mine...Seemed a bit high lol.

Re: Chopped
Yeah, I have no idea what is fair for that kind of work. I paid 1800.
That obviously included all the details that came with cutting the frame, shortening exhaust, brake lines, emergency brake , Driveshaft. They also installed a hitch and a new bumper and installed six new body mounts. I paid for all the material including the brothers $500 frame kit |

Re: Chopped
Sounds like you got a fair deal for that amount of work.

Re: Chopped
Pretty easy task. Buy a welder and 4" grinder do it yourself, then have tools left over cause you'll want to do more projects. Its addicting. I think with the brothers kit you bolt it in then you could have someone weld it up for a couple hundred. I did a straight cut then got Chanel for $20 and sleeved the frame. I also cut the bed sides, but if you got the funds you could get the bed kit. So much information out there on shortening these trucks. I have a welder so can't include that cost but my total cost for shortening my truck was less than $400 that's with a new driveline. Just saying, you can use that extra money for other things on the truck.

Re: Chopped
Well for a guy with very little mechanical experience I decide to get that heavy lifting done by someone else, hopefully I’ll get more brave in the future
How did the welds go on your bed, do you have any photos ? |
