An interior color question for the experts.
If my 72 Sierra Grande which is dark blue and white had come
from the factory with a tilt column instead of a regular column, what color would the dash pad, carpet, etc.have been?It is all blue with the regular column.I know the column and steering wheel would have been black. Any information is appreciated. Last edited by BlueBoy72; 06-28-2019 at 01:49 PM. |

Re: An interior color question for the experts.
Interior color is listed on the spid, what does that say? Let’s say it says blue, then it would have a blue dash pad.
I think the dash pad rule is it matches interior color except parchment which gets a tan dash pad. And Highlander’s get a black dash pad. |

Re: An interior color question for the experts.
If it had a Parchment interior and tilt column the dash pad, carpet, and seat belts could be black. I have had '72 YE9s that way. A/C vents were black, too. Just seat and door panels were Parchment. But I think blue interior would have had all Blue except column/steering wheel.
I believe some of these things varied plant to plant

Re: An interior color question for the experts.
No, Randy, it was body color. The ones I'm thinking of are Chevys. I never saw that interior color door on a Chevy YE9 until I came here.

Re: An interior color question for the experts.
I "solved" this by painting the tilt blue! That was one of my 3 things GM should have done better... of course if originality matters, this kind of archeology is fascinating!

Re: An interior color question for the experts.
Dash pad color would be same as it was with your nontilt column and would match the color of the metal atop the dash. Dash pad color follows the metal atop the dash so those cabs that had a black dash pad would have black painted metal dash top.

Re: An interior color question for the experts.
It's the other way around. The paint color on top of dash is determined by dash pad color. And yes they match.
Contrary to what GM did, I painted my first tilt column to match the interior color in '90 on a '71 Cheyenne. I never liked the whole black tilt column thing in interiors other than black. Same with a/c vent housings. I like those to match the body color. Blend not contrast for me on those things. I also put Sandalwood dash pads in Parchment interiors that have tilt. In these cases "correct" is my preference, not GM's . It sure looks better, IMO.

Re: An interior color question for the experts.
Might be a Cheyenne Super/Sierra Grande thing. I know these trucks were 100% original. Only the seat, headliner, visors, and door panels were Parchment. Of course, the seat had black in the seat cloth. Carpet, seat belts, and a/c housings were black. I didn't like it like that.

Re: An interior color question for the experts.
Parchment interior in my K20 with black on the column, dash pad, carpet, GB door and the metal atop the dash is black following the dash pad color. AC vents are orange.
Another pic of similar combo except the AC vents are black: I suspect the vents are original to the pickup but can't confirm.

Re: An interior color question for the experts.
The '72 K/20 Cheyenne Super I had in the exact same colors came with the black vents and red orange glovebox door. It was a Freemont truck, if that makes a difference.

Re: An interior color question for the experts.
Elvin - I read your question to be that the truck is blue and white paint, blue interior trim (can you confirm what your SPID says for interior trim?) If that is the case (i.e. blue custom cloth), this pic should be what you're looking for (even though this pic is of a medium blue truck, but you get the idea):
