For 1968 Chevy C10 will fuel gauge needle rest at however much fuel you have in tank?

For a 1968 Chevy C10 will the fuel gauge needle rest at however much fuel you have in the fuel tank when the engine is off with ignition in off position?

I read that somewhere else here and checked mine and sure enough!
That is with a new Boyd tank etc and the original gauge.
