WTB antenna part

I’m looking an original telescoping antenna part. It’s the one that receives the antenna wire and screws onto the above cowl bezel. See pictures

Re: WTB antenna part

I’m not following. Complete antenna rookie over here. My old antenna wire plugged directly into what I have pictured. I tried replacing my damaged telescoping antenna. It snapped off and then I ruined the part you see in the picture trying to remove the remains. I was talking with another board member and he said it didn’t look original. What are you thoughts?

Re: WTB antenna part

The gold part looks like original the silver part i dont recognize.
I feel like i have seen an antenna where the lead connects to the bottom, just not on one of these trucks. Post a pic of the top and bottom along with the other antenna parts.

Re: WTB antenna part

I think you can get a stock antenna and if you want use your above cowl hardware. That antenna would probably clean up with some WD40. I had just pulled it out of a box and took the picture.

Re: WTB antenna part

OEM pickup telescoping antenna masts affix to the base by a use of a female threaded collar - the crown piece doesn’t hold the mast in place nor does the mast have threads.

Re: WTB antenna part

I have seen that type of antenna before on these trucks but not with the removable wire. I usually just have 71-2 trucks and they have the one like deadhead posted. I guess that body will fix your problem and your upper parts look stock.

Re: WTB antenna part

Mine is off my 1970 truck. Did they make different antennas for different years?

Would be great to learn if so. We’ve gone around with whether or not fm had a fixed mast also.

This discussion probably would be better suited for the 67-72 message board, but the answer is yes, at least based on the time I spent in my favorite junkyard looking at antennas. I've seen the type shown in Pete's post 12 on '72s and possibly '71s. Below is a shot of the base and bottom of the original telescoping antenna from my '69. The antenna lead has a cylindrical rubber "cup" that slides over the base. I should be able to post additional pictures by the end of next week.

I can't answer the question of fixed vs. telescoping antennas for AM/FM radios' However, I do recall owning a car (probably a '69 Olds or '65 Impala SS), which had instructions in the owner's manual stating that the antenna should be adjusted to 31" for best FM reception.

Re: WTB antenna part

Additionally, the base Randy linked in post 7 does look similar to my base. The antenna lead in the link below also appears to be the same as mine. Not sure the length would be the same though.

As promised above.

I suspect this is too late and beyond the scope of this thread, but maybe someone will find it useful in the future. Realize this is from a '69. I believe '70s used the same style antenna. Not sure when they switched to the one Pete posted, but I believe it was '71 or '72.

The picture below shows all the parts related to the original antenna from my '69 except the firewall grommet. The parts on the left go above the cowl. Those on the right go below the cowl.

Re: WTB antenna part

I think you'll be fine if you order the part Randy posted as long as the end of your antenna lead looks like the one I posted a link to. The antenna should screw into the end shown at the top of the 1st picture you posted where the hexagonal metal part is. The lead should slip over the bottom end in the same picture.
