Did GM make a C 20 coil spring Dana 60 67-72?
All I’m finding are leaf spring Dana 60s. Does a coil spring version of this exist for a three-quarter ton??

Yes they do, kinda rare. Majority of the coil rears were HO52. Even some of the parts books at NAPA distinguish between coil and leaf for rear diff application of brake parts

Most coil dana60's were found in big block trucks and suburbans with 3:54 ratios. Definitely uncommon

I think I have one under a '72 GMC frame. I stuck it under the frame so it didn't have to sit on the ground and set a cab and bed on the frame so they didn't have to sit on the ground. I remember it wouldn't bolt up to the GMC leaf springs because the perches were on an angle. No pictures of it though. LockDoc

^^^ The BBC/TH400 combo that came through with 3.54:1 ratio is the only Dana60/coil application I know of. And that is only because that ratio wasn't available in corporate rears.

Re: Did GM make a C 20 coil spring Dana 60 67-72?
Congratulations! I stumbled on one that way. The guy said he wasn't sure of the ratio, but the truck was a 396/TH400. He didn't need to check. I knew it would be a 3.54.

Good chance of it having a power-loc posi. You'll know when you pull the cover

I posted the SPID in another post but my 72 C20 has a coil spring Dana 60 with 402/400 combo, that was the only reason I bought it, want to turn it into a Hotrod Cowboy Cadillac

Learn something new every day. Appears that’s what my 72 3/4 big block truck has

Re: Did GM make a C 20 coil spring Dana 60 67-72?
Well,, this has been a long and expensive project. If you are thinking of swapping to a Dana 60 rear for your coil sprung truck, start saving. I really don’t know what other options I had to get this truck to something higher than 4.10 years.
I’m not unhappy, just tired of spending money and ready to drive it again. I pick up the driveshaft today and should be cruising tonight. Junkyard rear end with freight $875 Machine shop to build new track bar pin that was broken on housing $275 Randy’s Ring and Pinion for a rebuild with new posi. $2300 (Inside of housing was damaged and had to be machined on the bearing surface. This cost me an extra $300) Brakes and lines $400 Track bar and mount $100? Shorten driveshaft, carrier bearing, joints $400 Total without misc items that I forgot about. $4,300 I will have to get my tailpipes reworked. I had to remove them because the track bar location is different on the is housing. Being lowered 6” makes it really tight above the axle tubes. I am scheduled at the muffler shop tomorrow. I guess that’s another couple hundred. Good luck. |

Re: Did GM make a C 20 coil spring Dana 60 67-72?
I have a dana 60 and i'm wondering if it came out of a trailing arm/coil spring truck. The track bar doesn't mount to the center section. It has a bracket on the right axle tube. The brackets for the trailing arms are different as well. I checked and a U bolt will fit in them like you are mounting it to a trailing arm. Wish I could upload images of it.
