Antenna nut

[1972 C10]

Does anyone know of a source for the antenna nut used on 72 C10? Mine had never been off until a couple of months ago when cowl panel needed to be painted. Now it acts as though either not properly engaging threads or is attempting to cross thread. Hoping that maybe new threads would help, don't have tap or die large enough and threads appear to be "special" anyway.

If all else fails. Find a thread pitch gauge to determine thread count and then get appropriate thread file to dress up the threads.

...I don't know if it will apply to '72, but when looking at my '68 C20 I noticed the antenna mast base was identical to what I had on my '68 Camaro (AM oval mast).
Could be Chevy used the same/similar bases across MY vehicles, might be worth looking at other '72 Chevy's...

I sorta ran across that searching ebay, I say sorta because I found one w/application for Camaro and C 10, ordered then called because pic didn't look right. It was "high crown" for telescoping ant. on C10. Mine is "low crown" for fixed mast. I saw several there that looked right for various late 60s early 70s GM passenger cars. On further checking, they had different item numbers w/identical pics. I messaged seller yesterday for dimensions but have not recvd a response. It seems likely to me that one or more of the passenger car nuts would be the same but not way to tell w/o dimensions. Thanks for the reply.

KevinK7, I just noticed your avatar appears to be a 67 Pace Car, is it? I had one 30 years ago that my wife still gripes about being sold. At the time I didn't feel comfortable w/her driving a $10,000 Camaro.lol For time reference, it was about the same time I sold a matching number 69 Z28 for $ 3750.

Indeed it is , ...and as you know, the prices have gone way up on the 1st Gen's.

I found mine in Las Vegas in the mid-80's. Restored it at my brother's, then eventually shipped it back to NY. Fast forward, a rep (Scott Settlemire) from GM saw it and I ended up leasing to Chevy for the "Camaro Legends Tour", then sold it back to GM. It now resides in the Heritage Museum in Detroit.

69-72 corvettes use the same low crown antenna nut, probably available through corvette sources.
Vans till 1980 or so had the same antenna and nut, most or all had a different under panel mount.

Randy500, You have pointed out one more flaw in my aging memory. I had a "Corvette" shop active for about 20 years and didn't recognize the nut from a Corvette. All I remembered was one that required a special socket (which I still have one of). But low and behold I tried Corvette America (former dealer for), picture looked right in spite 0f my memory. It did however show 69-82, not an issue so on the way. My shop was alive in the later 70s and the 80s+ so I know I saw & sold alot of Corvettes w/that nut, but for the life of me cannot remember. THANX again for pointing it out.

Your welcome. I got into vettes for a long time after the trucks and i always thought it odd they used the same nut, they use the same antenna and mast too just a different piece below the nut to match the flatter corvette rear deck.
