Re: 72 Impala Radio ?
I'm not 100% certain, but I think there is a good chance that it will fit.
Both radios (67-72 truck & 69-72 Impala) share the same 6-1/4" on center knob spacing. And the rectangular center opening is 4-1/2" wide on both as well. I don' think the center opening in the Impalas is quite as tall as it is in the trucks (something like 1-3/4" vs. 2-1/4"). But the faceplate on the Impala radios just fits up behind the center opening (doesn't stick out any) and is larger than the opening so it might be large enough to fill the opening in the truck dash without leaving a gap that you'd have to fill. The depth of the faceplate in the area around the shafts might be an issue though. I believe the pickup radios use mounting cups of equal depth on both sides. While the car radios often have a deeper cup on the RH side (around the tuning shaft) to accommodate an optional front/rear speaker fader. I don't know if the mounting cups for a car application would fit the pickup dash or not. Finally, the provisions for the rear support bracket may be different on the car vs. truck radio. But that would be easy enough to work around by simply making your own support bracket. |
