1972 Extended cab?
I saw this very nice 1972 Cheyenne long bed extended cab at the Daytona Turkey Run over the weekend. I don't recall ever seeing another, and there is no mention in the Chevy brochure. Did Chevy make this or is it a well done modification?

Re: 1972 Extended cab?
I believe a board member here built that, but don't recall who. Not factory...

Re: 1972 Extended cab?
Many have valiantly tried, and I've only seen one that looked factory, and it wasn't done yet!

Re: 1972 Extended cab?
Definitely not factory, as they were never made by GM, but that one looks like it was done very well. The forward slant of the door window makes getting the proportions to look right very difficult.

Re: 1972 Extended cab?
I sold that back in June to a guy in southern Indiana. I built it back in 1996 and went through it again last year. I thought the guy l sold it to would flip it. Thanks for posting it, been curious where it ended up.

Re: 1972 Extended cab?
Looks like your truck for sale at a local dealership. Stopped by there the other and they didn’t have any info on the truck. Do you have any details on the power train and mods to the frame, etc?

Re: 1972 Extended cab?
First GM extended cab was '88. That's when the truck buying world exploded into today's market. That and the coming of the 4dr SUV, other than Suburban. For GM that was '92. We were the Crewcab people, although Ford and Dodge did it first. Ford dropped that but I believe Dodge carried on. But by the '80s nobody wanted a Dodge until the Cummins saved their butt in '89

Re: 1972 Extended cab?
BLT-NT-BOT, Love the paint job.
One time in my 4x4 '71 Jimmy, I was four-wheeling from one remote jobsite for about 20 miles of twisty mountain road to another one about 45 minutes away on the freeway. When I got there, I noticed my battery had broken out of its mounting and rolled on its side, and a streak of acid had etched an airflow line in the paint of the passenger side fender. You must have dual batteries. Just kidding. I like the Orange/Silver look.

I've seen his truck in person, and it really does look that good.

Re: 1972 Extended cab?
This is quite fantastic, both 72 tigger and BLT-NT-BOT. Just think of the gas tank I could put behind the front bench seat! I could drive for days and not stop at a gas station. :-) Seriously, though, great work and beautiful.

Re: 1972 Extended cab?
As I understand it, GM lost the CUCV [civilian vehicles for military use] contract to Chrysler because the Air Force required 6-place crew cabs for the Titan Missle program. GM didn't have them at the time the RFP went out.
Any GM crew cabs or extended cabs prior to MY '73 were produced by small custom coach shops for niche buyers like railroads, oilfield exploration companies, municipalities, fire depts. etc.

Re: 1972 Extended cab?
C'mon you guys. Nobody remembers International. 3 door crew cab in 1957. 4 door in 58. They called it the Travelette.

I had forgotten all about the I-H Travellette. He was about 86 when I bought an Orange Chevy Stepside. Broke his poor heart. I had seen a couple of Harvester trucks -- I had said on the phone [now 23] -- but they wad been worked hard already [and put up wet.] Their gearing was way too low for inter-urban LA, even then. The Body by Fischer look of the 68 Stepside had me in its spell.

Re: 1972 Extended cab?
I like that quite a lot. It would be nice to see it with a long bed, would be much better.
