Taillight Turn Signal Issue
Hey Folks,
So I've searched through the forum as best I can and can't seem to find any solutions to my problem, so...well...here it is: All turn signal lights work fine. Park lamps come on as they should, as do the brake lights when brakes are applied. Hazards work fine. Turn them on and park lamps and brake lights all flash as they should. Now for the problem. When I turn on either turn signal (left or right) the park lamp and dash indicator come on, but do not flash, and the rear (brake) light does not come on at all. When brakes are applied, only the brake light opposite the direction of the turn signal comes one. So far, to no avail, I've swapped the flashers and replaced the turn signal switch. A little background, this is a fresh build, and I've used an American Autowire Classic Update Kit. The taillights are LED. Any input would be appreciated, this one's got me stumped. Cheers

Re: Taillight Turn Signal Issue
I've heard that LED lights need a special flasher for the low amp draw
Something to look into |

Re: Taillight Turn Signal Issue
Two very important things about LED's.
#1 is they want work if any of the wires in the system have been reversed. They are polarity sensitive. #2 using the LED bulbs can cause all kinds of problems. If all you have is LED rear lights and the fronts are incandescent you shouldn't need the flashers.

Re: Taillight Turn Signal Issue
Also, some flasher modules are polarity sensitive. You can try using alligator clip test wires to hook up the flasher module with the pins reversed and see what you get.

Re: Taillight Turn Signal Issue
The "bad" flasher is either polarity or current sensitive.

Re: Taillight Turn Signal Issue
So that flasher only kind of worked. It was blinking short-on long-off, then short-on longer-off, then short-on even longer-off, until eventually it just wouldn't come on anymore.
I tried reversing the polarity and didn't seem to change anything. I've ordered the united pacific 90650 flasher, as suggested in another thread. I will see if that works.

Re: Taillight Turn Signal Issue
My son's truck had something that sounds like you are having. I had the wires in the socket reversed. I pulled them, switched them and all seemed to work. And I used AAW as well. Great setup if you ask me.
Good luck. |

Re: Taillight Turn Signal Issue
So just an update.
I got the United Pacific 90650 flasher in and it works perfectly! Makes me very happy.
