67-72 GMC frame Vin Question

Did any 67-72 GMCs have the vin stamped into the frame rail in engine bay?

Re: 67-72 GMC frame Vin Question

We have a original factory 70 BB short fleet GMC with ZERO VIN stampings on the frame rails and we have a original 70 BB longbed GMC and a 72 GMC longbed that do have them both under the cab and aft of the steering box so go figure.

Re: 67-72 GMC frame Vin Question

Ok thanks. I know chevy trucks had them and some said their GMCs didn't, so I guess it was hit or miss on GMC stampings.

Re: 67-72 GMC frame Vin Question

My 68 GMC has nothing on the frame , I have looked every where . Not sure why

But the only place with the vin # is on the buck tag mounted on drivers side door post . Which leads me to a question ? What happens if you lose the buck tag , no way to verify owner ship ,

A friend of mine did and he’s not sure what to do ? He has registration and title but no buck tag ?

Re: 67-72 GMC frame Vin Question

Well went in and bought plate for the truck , hasn’t been plated for 35 yrs . I had the original title . They spent 45 min’s getting everything back into And out of the system just so I could get plates . ( they purge records after so many yrs ). Anyhow got that done then ask what I had to do to get a new vin tag replacement ?
Easy peasy , fill out a form explaining why I need a new one , pay a $10 fee and off you go.
I was actually shocked it was that easy.
I told the girl , I have a motor cycle also 30 yrs not being plated . She said , now I’m an expert at this bring in it !

Small town DMV , very cordial , helpful and patient . 2 people behind the counter . 6 people waiting and not one impatient person . That’s small town life for you. She did keep apologizing for the time it took but I told her that’s why we live here and she said yep sometimes we forget .
