Big block and NV 4500 installed in a 4x4
Can anyone give me some info or a link on info and putting it 454 and an NV 4500 trans and a 4x4? I've been searching and haven't been able to locate one yet.

Re: Big block and NV 4500 installed in a 4x4
AA has a few conversion guides to get you started. I'd suggest you go there and download a few guides to start, or read online. I have an old pdf on decoding some 4500s that I used to make sense of the barcode on mine. I haven't seen that online in many years.
Others like ord have info and parts. There are a number of build threads on this site that are great. To overly simplify, there are early very low 1st gear and later not quite so low 1st versions. There are GM and Dodge versions. 2x4 and 4x4 versions. Probably the simplest thing is to use a 4x4 GM trans and a round pattern NP205, 208, or 241 (all passenger drop). Bellhousings can be an issue since I think all but the earliest 4500 BHs had a different trans bolt pattern. Some have redrilled iron BHs to fit the 4500. Bolting to a Chevy block isn't an issue. Round pattern NP205s are pretty rare. It's possible to adapt a figure-8 205 but that has issues too. What are you putting the 454/NV4500 in and is is a 4x4? What TC? Which NV4500? Is the 454 crank ready for a pilot bearing/bushing? http://advanceadapters.ru/pdf/gm_ebook.pdf http://advanceadapters.ru/tech-vault...pecifications/ https://www.google.com/search?ei=D6g...4dUDCAw&uact=5 https://www.google.com/search?ei=qag...sclient=psy-ab https://www.google.com/search?q=offr...hrome&ie=UTF-8 Last edited by franken; 07-09-2020 at 08:20 PM. |
