Did this 1970 grill feature get axed for production?

Hello All - I have the 1970 Chevrolet Movers sales brochure for C10's. Every truck from the base model to the CST's shows silver horizontal bars on the black plastic grill. I can't remember ever seeing a truck with this feature in real life. If I look closely at my '70 grill, there are flat rectangular "pads" where a secondary operation could have been done to add some silver paint on top of the black plastic. Was this a feature that made the photo shoot, but never production? I think it would be kind of cool to take a silver paint pen and do it by hand. Would be very easy to do as the molded surfaces are all there. Does anyone have a truck with a grill that looks like the brochure? Would love to see a real one!

Re: Did this 1970 grill feature get axed for production?

The 69 and 70 grilles were both egg crate. The 70s had raised areas on the horizontal black "bars" that had an almost chrome appearing finish as shown in the brochure picture above. The 69 horizontal bars did not have raised areas, and the egg crate was all silverish paint.

My 69 inner and outer grilles were replaced with GM replacement parts in early 1972 after I was hit by a reckless driver. The inner grille was the 1970 design, and the outer was not quite right for either year. Below is a picture of that setup taken in 2010 that shows the silver almost worn off.

I believe if you paint the raised areas silver as you suggested, you will be very close to what it would have been new.

We have this NOS 70 specific inner grill along with several other NOS 69-70 parts listed F/S in the below linked parts board thread titled "NOS 1969-70 Chevy Park Light Assemblies, Hood Latch, Emblems and H/L Bezels", the 70 inner grill is unused and still in the GM box and there are a few more pictures posted in the below thread. Have a look, Mel

I have the original 70 grill, when I took it apart, I could see the raised areas were painted silver, but had worn off all these years, only the tiniest bit of silver was there, I repainted it to stock, tedious
