1968 GMC motor a 230 or a 250?
Hi All...
I have a a 1968 GMC inline-6. Casting number is 3921968 which I know is either a 230 or 250 motor. Will the build sheet tell me for sure what size the motor is? The #11 engine box on the build sheet has PF in it. Please see pictures for reference. Thanks for you input. |

I don't think there was a 230 option in '68, but there is this also:

Thanks KWMECH. Based on the chart you posted, it's a 250cid as the PF code is noted on it.

Re: 1968 GMC motor a 230 or a 250?
PF is a 250, in my code book for 68 & 69 Truck, 155 hp. 68 got a 4 speed, 69 got 3 speed manual, RPO L22.
Other comments; 68 got HD clutch & K19 emissions (air injection) 69 was low compression

Thanks MJN. My '68 has a 3-speed column shift.

Re: 1968 GMC motor a 230 or a 250?
FWIW my 67 owners manual shows the 230 as only being used in the P10 (bread truck style). So if it came out of a pickup I'd be pretty confident that it is a 250.
